Paris Flea Market

There are several--all have become somewhat touristy I'm afraid, fun to visit but watch out what you buy and at what price. The best known is "Puces de Montreuil", Porte de Montreuil. The "Puces de St. Ouen" are also well known, Porte de St. Ouen ("puce" means flea--flea market is "marche aux puces"). Check the tourist office web site for all addresses: www.paris-touristoffice.com (shopping). Other interesting markets are the flowers' market, birds' market and some of the best known street (aka farmers') markets, such as rue Mouffetard and rue de Montorgueil.

Susan's right about checking the thread, and I agree with Miane about the Paris tourist office website--it's full of great info. You should know that the Marche Aux Puces at St. Ouen (Clignancourt Metro stop), is really more of an antiques market that what we think of here in the US as a flea market. Many of the stalls are very upmarket and expensive, although, as always, there are bargains to be found. Do read up a bit on the market, as there are different groups of stalls and buildings specialize in different periods or objects or furniture. It's great fun to spend the day there whether you buy or not.

This is some information I have on Flea Markets

The largest and most famous is the Marche aux Puces de St Ouen-Cligancourt. It is divided into 10 large sections, offering everything from genuine antique furniture at high prices to junk and everything in between. Keep walking past the junk or jeans stands until just beyond the underpass where the market actually begins. As carol said, what you will find is mostly genuine antiques, and priced accordingly. Open Sat, Sun, Mon, 8am-7pm. Metro Porte de Cligancourt.

March aux Puces de Montreuil is much smaller and a little less expensive. Clothing, furniture, housewares. Sat, Sun, Mon 7am-7pm. Metro Porte de Montreuil

Marche aux Puces de la Porte de Vanves, considered the most casual and least organized of these markets. Odds and ends, furniture, clothing. Great for bargain-hunting browsers. Sat, Sun, Mon 7am-7pm. Metro Porte de Vanves.
