Paris Day Trips in March
I was considering going to either Versailles or Giverny in March but I've run into some difficulties. It seems the Versailles fountains aren't on until April and Claude Monet's house and garden's don't open until April 1. So I'm stuck looking for some other ideas. Suggestions appreciated!

Dijon has come up a few times here as a nice place to spend day, trip by TGV.
I liked Auvers sur Oise (Van Gogh), went in January...so no fields of wheat.
Vaux le Vicomte is another place (castle) that has come up.
I've been to Reims (Champagne country) in January. No fields of grapes, but interesting old town (famous cathedral) and champagne cellar tours.
As an organized tour, could do a day trip of Loire valley.
Do a search here, there have been several threads lately on this topic.

I agree with wondering.... There's a lot more to see than just the fountains.
You have an additional thread going and others should know that you have a very short vacation planned. Four days in Paris (are they full days, or 3 1/2 days)and you are trying to squeeze in Aix & Nice in around 4 days - including travel time to & from. I would advise you to cut down drastically on your travel time getting to & from places. Versailles is fine because that does not consume a lot of travel time and Versailles is quite unique. I would not try to visit Giverny (which you can't anyway), Dijon (my second favorite city in France), Reims, or the Loire. Stay in Paris longer and/or spend more time in Aix or Nice (on your other thread I advised you to just visit Nice & surrounds, and skip Aix).

I loved Rouen. The city had a lot of variety. I have my day trip report if you'd like it. [email protected]
