Paris C.D.G to Brittany
I'm picking a rental car up at the airport and have bought a detailed Michelin atlas for France -any more advice on route/or making the journey easier? It certainly looks a complex journey from the maps,I'm heading for Quimper and the A 11 looks the best bet.Any advice?
Mike

Hi, Mike! We drove in a rental car from CDG with a michelin map (though not to Brittany, we went to Chartres for our first night). The area of the map around Paris does look daunting! So many roads! We asked the car rental agent for the best route bypassing Paris, and he steered us right, even drew us a little map, and gave us a map. We had no problem. There will be plenty of signs to point you in the right direction. The A-11 will be a major toll road and you can't go wrong on that. I found the michelin map to be very reliable - we brought a huge yellow one with us with all the roads in France on it.

I don't know how the roads work in the UK, but in France if you follow the signs of place names that lie along the route toward your destination, you can't go wrong. Sometimes, you'll think you've lost your way, then you'll come to a roundabout and see the name of the town you want with an arrow pointing the way. That's how we found our way around France, following place name signs with arrows. It's much easier than looking for a sign with the road number.

But if you go on the "A" roads, the toll roads, it should be impossible to get lost and you will make the best time.

Good luck! We had a great time driving in France, and would do it again with no hesitation whatsoever. Perhaps someone here will have specific info on the roads in Brittany for you. Have a nice time!

Mike, Worry pas. It looks more complicated than it is. Use Mappy.com like Betty posted. Cut the directions out by sections. I cut them out in pieces I can place under my thumb on the steering wheel. I did this trip last May. Picked up the car at CDG drove the Rouen for the first night, then Caen area, Mt St. Michel, and then to Quimper. Then Vannes. Left the car in Rennes and took the train to Paris.
My only suggestion would be to know the towns that are in the direction you are traveling. I could not get off those "Toutes Directions" without knowing those towns. Route # did not help.
