Paris: Brasserie Seafood Platter

Last year I took my father to Paris for his first time. I'm doing it again this year and last night he mentioned something we saw last year: huge shared seafood platters in brasseries.

The fact that he has mentioned it again means it is on his mind!!

Can anyone recommend a nice brasserie where we can order one? Have you ever had one and was it nice?

Thanks!!

I can't remember the place unfortunately!! I believe it was in the 15th - we took the Metro. He won't remember either. We didn't order one - just stared at all the other diners who were tucking in!! Seemed to be a very popular practice...

We are mad on seafood. We are looking for somewhere that sources good seafood (i.e. fresh) for their platters.

Hi

Had a good one at Le Petit Zinc in the 6th.

If you see an assortment of seafood and fish on ice and in tanks outside a restaurant, you know it will have good seafood.

Many many restaurants/brasseries have these. La Coupole has been mentioned--Le Pied du Cochon near Les Halles has one. They are not difficult to find at all.

There was(is?)an Art Deco brasserie, well known for its "fruits de mer" platters, on the Blvd. des Capuccines (sp?), I believe. I can't remember the name of it; anyone? -- Aha, Cafe de la Paix, perhaps?

Grandmere, might you be thinking of the Cafe Grands Capucins? It has an elaborate art nouveau ceiling and I know it does a seafood/shellfish platter. It's one of those large bistros/brasseries owned by the Flo group like the Pied de Cochon.

Surely le Dome (next to la Coupole) has them. I've even seen them at the chain Chez Clement (on the other side of la Coupole).

Here's another recommendation for Le Petit Zinc. Charming restaurant with tables set outdoors in a lovely neighborhood.

We found La Coupole too huge and loud and thought the food was way overpriced for the quality. In fact, for the quality, I'd avoid the place.

I ate at the Vaudeville restaurant across from the Bourse in the 9th this past May. They had huge, iced seafood towers that looked delicious. I was too busy with the foie gras to try one though.

Another vote for Le Vaudeville---our favorite restaurant. It is in the 2nd [Bourse Metro]. In the vicinity of the Palais Royalle and some of the covered passages. For a description of the latter, search google for passages couverts and get the english trandslation.

Thanks for the arrondissement clarification Ron. I walked down from the 9th and didn't notice I'd crossed into the 2nd. Sometimes I wish they had the boundaries more boldly marked.

Hi, we stayed on Rue Jacob near rue St Benoit at the Hotel du Danube, but I never saw Le Petit Zinc. I checked out the web site and it looks wonderful, but can someone tell me what "dog cockles" are? My imagination is running wild!

There is a chain of seafood restaurants in Paris that serves fresh oysters, and they also have huge platters, and displays outside (Le Bar a Huitres).. as they do on rue de Buci where there are some good seafood places!
