A nice evening. Barb and Jim arrived at 6. We opened a bottle of champagne, toasted to being in Paris. I showed them this lovvely apt. Jim took some pictures of his own.

We talked about all the things they have seen in a shot time in Paris and of their forthcoming trips on to the Loire, Dordogne, Provence and Italy!

L'ami Jean was crowded by the time we left. They seem to have quie a bit of confusion, getting orders mixed up etc. We did not have dessert.

We had a pleasant walk back to my apartment, said our goodbyes and called it a night.

Another pleasant day by my outside views.

A busy day ahead with nice friends and what I know will be a great meal, as always, at Fables.

Thanks for the rec, djkbooks, but I have already tried there, as well. No worries, I'm sure something will work out soon.

Joan, you say you are not a photographer but your pictures are lovely! It's great seeing Paris in "real time'.

Have a wonderful day!

GJ - I so appreciate being able to anticipate our arrival soon in Paris by reading your thread and viewing the pics. Chez Pierrot looks like a very good option as its not too far from our apartment on r. Grenelle. How was the creme brulee?

Kimberly,

You were not able to work something out with Taryn/Michelle at Paris Perfect?

Chicago/Dallas/Girl: The creme brulee was very good. I have seen other desserts..if you are a dessert person, you will enjoy! Chez Pierrot is a simple, good bistro. I was glad to find them still there.

Had a super day today. Friends (laidbck) arrived at 11:3o and other friend(weekender) who came on the eurostar arrived about 12:15. They enjoyed my apt. tour. We enjoyed some champagne and visiting before heading down to Fables. We had a great lunch, of course. I forgot my camera, but laidback took pics and will send to me and I will pass on. Weekender had to catch the eurostar back to London and we 3 stopped in to Violon so they could make a reservation. We chatted a minute with Christian in front of Cafe Constant and then went in for cafe, wine. We then went our separate ways. I had to pack for my move tomorrow!

I will post more pics when received..

a bientot...

Sounds like another great day in Paris (when is it not??). I'm jealous of your lunch gtg at Fables. Usually, we're all on one side talking to you while you're living it up in Paris. No fair that weekender and laidback get to share a piece of it.

What are your plans for Sunday? This isn't the l'Obe date, is it?

Hi Joan,
Just checking in once more to read up on all your fun!!
Packing for Paris (& Ireland)today so feel quite excited.
Thank you for showing us all the food pics! These last ones at Fables looked fab! Is this your favourite out of all the CC restaurants?
I hope you don't mind me saying this but the dishes put before you at l'Ami Jean did not look like the chef had made too much effort. The food must taste OK? - or they would'nt be packed when you left?.

Wishing you lots of glorious sunshine for the rest of your stay!

Hi tod,

I know you are excited with your trip about to begin.

Re: l'Ami Jean. I have avoided making dining arrangements at l'Ami Jean, from conversations with friends who were not very pleased after trying it more than once. also, having stopped in there when passing one day when here on a previous trip and asking if they might have a spot for me later..they did not. I did notice the seating and it did not look that great. Many say they have great rice pudding! I really can't say that rice pudding will go far on my dining reservation considerations! The servers and kitchen were confused with everything as to what we ordered and for whom. I was a guest of my nice friends. I did enjoy their company and we had a great time. I really don't know that I would make a reservation there. I know so many, many others. I don't know why the raves..guess it must just must be me!

Fables is an excellent place for seafood. The Constant restaurants are all so different from one another. Violon is still their premier restaurant, and I do think an excellent buy for the prices that they chaarge, for food, ambience and service. I usually go to Les Cocottes for lunch..I guess high stool dining just doesn't seem like dinner seating to me..that's just me..I could easily change because of the excellent foo there! Cafe Constant is a true bistro..the downstairs is wherre you/I prefer to be, but not always suitable for your group. Excellent food and value. Great spot.

Have a great trip..I did enjoy Ireland some years back. I was quite surprised with the food being so great..a lot of French cuisine!

I went to Pasco's for lunc. I called over there this morning and made a reservation. I went early..12:30. When I arrived there was only one other table filled. I thoght a reservations may not have been necessary! Well, that was a mistake. They just kept arriving...I think all were local French. Nice not to be in a place filled with tourists!

My lunch was very good. The menu is 23.50 for entree and plat or plat and dessert. Don't remember all 3 price. My single glass of wine was 4.50.

A good place to have on your list..especially for a Sunday.

I then stopped by the Ecole Militaire metro and filled my Navigo Decouverte for the week beginning tomorrow.

A grey day and not bad temperature..a light coat and scarf feel comfortable. I did a bit of wandering in the Marais..not much before returning homeward.

Go to CC at noon..it fills up quickly.

Au Bon Accueil is still having nice things said. I jsut have not had time to go there. It is only a block away from me. I need to stop by and make a reservation.

I am meeting a forum person (we do not know one another) at CC at noon on Tuesday. I will get there early to get a downstaiars table...more atmosphere! If you go in the evening get there by 8:00. Same goes for Les Cocottes lunch or dinner.

We will probably pass on the streets or in a Constant. I often go to CC for breakfast.

Have a good flight..if there is such a thing!!

Thank you very much for the good wishes Joan. Your photo of 29 Ave.Rapp certainly brought back memories of a trip some +-5 years ago when I sat on a bench quite near that door repairing the elastoplast on my heels and toes - boy did I have foot problems that day. No more very closed-in shoes (like trainers) for me ever!
Of course 29 Ave.Rapp is a prime example of Art Nouveau architecture and won it's designer, Jules Lavirotte, first prize at the Concours des Facades de la Ville de Paris in 1901. It's ceramics and brickwork are decorated with animal and flower motifs intermingling with female figures.
These superimposed on a multicoloured sandstone base to produce a facade that is deliberately erotic, and was certainly subversive in it's day!
Also worth visiting ( which we did) is Lavriotte's building, complete with watchtower, which can be found in the Square Rapp, very closeby.

Funny you mentioned the Lavriotte building. I almost stopped for a picture today. I have taken it before. Not this trip.

Not fun to have sore feet. Comfy shoes are a must!

tod,

You will probably like this one. It is down on Bourdonnais and St. Dominique. I see the tops of it from my apt. over the rooftops.

Beautiful day!! I went to Flirt The to see what kind of weekend Florent and Michael had in Marseille. I had breakfast and caught the 82 bus to Pl. Victor Hugo. A nice area to wander around. Many nice shops. I returned, and got off at Champ de Mars/Suffren and walked acros the Champ de Mars to home.

I thought the Ritz Bar Vendome sounded good for lunch. I called, but they are full today! C'set la vie! I called Au Bon Accueil as a replacement...they have a spot for me. I have not been in a couple years..even though always very nearby. I will check it out today!

I think my pigeons are looking for me!

I had lunch at Au Bon Accueil. Very nice. I'll tell you what..if I had to make a choice between l'Ami Jean and Au Bon Accueil, I wouldn't have to think twice! If I have time, I will return for dinner...otherwise it will be in the fall. It is never far from me!

Pictures:

I do have reservations for Bar Vendome at the Ritz for Friday, which is VE Day. Should be a good place to celebbrate VE Day some 64 years later!!
