Will certainly report back with how things proceed, though my actual trip isn’t till end June.

Has anyone used Special Apartments, they appear to be well reviewed and have registered properties.

The law is quite clear. There are only two circumstances when registration numbers come into play:
  1. When they are visible on any listing to assure renters that the apartment is registered .
  2. When they are not visible on a listing which subjects the owner, and the platform at which it is listed, to a 450€ fine.
Is it possible that someone would go to the trouble of obtaining a registration number and not include it in a listing subjecting him to a fine? Maybe.

Very sketchy -- The registration number would be there if one exists . . .

Why wouldn't he? Until France starts to fully enforce the law holding platforms responsible, he has nothing to loose by saying that all are legit.

I've used Paris Vacation Apartments in the Palais Royal Building. They also list on VRBO, but have their own site as well. A quick look on VRBO found a studio in June for 209 with a registration number. https://www.vrbo.com/423038
We stayed in a two bedroom in 2016 that was listed on the Mairie website back then, so I knew it was legal. Now they are placing the registration numbers on the ads, at least on the VRBO ones.

Good question Sarastro. I checked and apparently the owner lives in the apartment and lets it out for 120 days a year. Is this legal or a dodgy move, what do you think?!!!😬

Well folks, just booked a 2 bedroom apartment in the 5th near Jardin du Luxembourg through booking.com and yes, it does have a registration number. At 76sqm the apartment should be reasonably spacious by Parisian standards, it also has a small terrace and elevator access; plus free cancellation till end May in case I change my mind. All in all am quite pleased with myself!

Thank you all for listening to me patiently and giving me your suggestions and comments, as always it's a huge help

Thank you! Paris holds a very special place in my heart, DH and I lived there for five glorious years as newlyweds in the early to mid eighties. Luckily work takes us back there every year but you can never have enough of Paris, can you?!

Can you post the link? A lot of us are interested in finding legal rentals... Merci!

Rialtogrl, here’s the link to the apartment I booked earlier today. Price is €1200 for five nights in end June, not bad at all.

https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/lux...ris.en-gb.html

This second link is to a similarly priced apartment in St Germain, this one’s a little smaller, but is also registered.

Please let us know after your trip how everything works out.

I have noticed that quite a few apartments on Air BNB now have the registration number. Should I feel confident that these are legit?

Gundy, any listing with a registration number is legit. We'll be staying in Paris at the end of the month, will get back about the apartment in July.

I could go the the city registration website right now and within ten minutes, I could register an apartment at 112 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré and advertise it on Airbnb. I don´t think that the Bristol Hotel would appreciate my efforts at renting out their rooms but I could certainly list one with a registration number.

A listing with a registration number is absolutely no guarantee that the property is legal but certainly any listing without the number is definitely illegal.

This is all relatively new and as the city´s efforts to remove unregistered apartments from the marketplace bears fruit, I am sure that they will next concentrate their efforts on the legitimacy of those who have obtained registration numbers.

Hi,

We just returned after a wonderful 8-day stay at the edge of Marais (between Republique and Bastille squares). We were 4 but it's ideal for 2. Absolutely no complaints about either the host or the apt or the location. Convenient beyond words - can walk to most sites and metro is yards away.

That place looks nice. What floor is it on, and does it have an elevator?

You asked about www.parisbestlodge.com. We have used them in the past and loved it. We used to recommend them highly on this site. We have stayed in the Mr. Prince apartment in the 6th and the Castex in the Marais/Bastille area. They were both fantastic. Very nice apartments in perfect locations. However, this was before the crackdown on short term rentals. We couldn't even get in contact with them on our last trip to Paris and ended up staying at a hotel. I am interested in hearing about recent experiences with PBL because we are planning another trip to Paris next April.
