annhig, that is as good a theory as any I guess. My surprise was that she just didn't toss it in a bin. And I am grateful for that.

Judy, (the Judy I met at a GTG a few years ago I think?). We were there Thursday to Thursday too, bought it and renewed on Monday but that worked well for our plans. I am envious and wish you safe travels and fun times. I hope you do a report.

<We always get the same question re Paris but I have never heard anyone say, "so you're going to a beach again?" So true!

The reason you couldn't take the RER to Fontainebleau is because the RER doesn't go to Fontainebleau. You were correct in being at Gare de Lyon but you take one of the main line trains that departs from Hall 1. Use transilien.com for schedules. The château website also has info:

But at least you figured it out, eventually.

We love Ryst Dupeyron, too! I bought my husband a bottle from 1952 for his 65th birthday. The people who work there are wonderful and it is always a highlight of our trip.

gomiki, we did meet in Paris a few years ago.....at Cafe Bonaparte. This trip we are staying in the 6th and have no day trips planned so will see how the carnets work.....we can always use the Navigos starting Monday if using carnets too quickly.

Can't wait....leave this morning!

My husband was pickpocketed getting onto a train in Naples the same way you were, by people blocking the entrance to the train. In his case it was a group of large men who were well dressed. So I guess the moral is to back off and not to push through, although that might be easier said than done.

Glad to hear there was no loss though, and especially that you got your camera back.

Now that I have stopped coughing I wish I had been able to go to that Vermeer exhibit at the Louvre instead of acting out the last act of La Boheme while I was in Paris.

Looking forward to hearing about your Fodor's get-together.

FMT, I think part of my confusion was that the trip was covered using the Navigo card. So my brain was thinking RER.

tracilee, what a nice gift!

Nikki, I'm sorry you were so ill in Paris. And I know you make a lot of plans so you missed a lot. I'm glad you are better.

Nikki - I'm glad you're feeling better at last. it's bad enough feeling rough but being ill on holiday is a real bugger.

maitaitom, our Sunday lunch spot was chosen because of your rave review on your Paris report. After going to the Bastille market we went to L'Ange 20. OMG it was wonderful. I had the cod and R had the seven hour lamb. We rolled out of there and walked around the Place des Vosges. The park was full of people enjoying a perfect spring day. It really felt more like summer.

A zone 1-5 Navigo card can be used on any form of public transport in zones 1-5, including main line trains. Just an FYI.

<<We always get the same question re Paris but I've never heard anyone say, "so you're going to a beach again?">>

HAHAHA! I got that same "France...AGAIN?" question for decades. Then we got "You're actually going to MOVE there???"

HAHA to all of them! Yep, you got that right.

I once had a similar experience of girls blocking access to a train car and then making a point of returning an ID document they had nicked but pretended they had found. I think if they can't find your wallet they still want to "prove" they got the better of you, as a way to show superiority.

We made it to Chateau de Fontainebleau on Monday. Finding the train was easy this time but finding the spot to scan our Navigo wasn't. So we didn't. On the way back we did scan it as the device was easy to spot. This time our Navigo was checked on the train. What I would like to know is what would have happened if we had not scanned it. It's unlimited so not like we were trying to save a ticket. I imagine a fine would have been charged.

The admission is €11 and the audio guide is €3 and very good. We were there about three hours.

Tuesday we went to the Balenciaga exhibit at the Bourdelle Museum. http://parismusees.paris.fr/en/bourdelle-museum .
http://uk.france.fr/en/events/balenc...usee-bourdelle

The museum is free and the exhibit is €11. Both were wonderful and one of our highlights.

And then we had our GTG dinner at Lilane with the Traviatas, FuryFluffy and WoinParis. Woin was kind to make the reservations for us. We had a round table and conversation was easy. Both the company and food were outstanding and another highlight. http://lilane.com/

Another pickpocket doing a humble brag!

The one time I was picked (Metro at the door, seems to be a pattern here), the pick held up my wallet, removed only the cash, and tossed the wallet back to me with a big grin on his face.

Wednesday we walked to Monge market and I stopped at the Pharmacy on the corner. They had many of the cosmetics as Cite Pharmacy and the prices were very similar. It was a good find and saved the the crush of Cite.

Then the mandatory visit to the Eiffel Tower at Trocadero. The day was gorgeous. They now have the metal barrier so you can't get right up to the wall. I remember people sitting there. Probably why the barriers are there now.

'Both the company and food were outstanding and another highlight. http://lilane.com/'

Fully agree on both counts. A lovely evening. And I love this neighbourhood, the first I discovered as a kid, several years in a row. For me Paris was Place Jussieu.

Btw, did I say that I blew my tyre when going back to my hotel ? I took the Velib I had arrive with and decided, since I had had a lovely evening and was in the mood, to cycle on the bank of the Seine. But there are small steps here and there and I didn't see one of them, my wheel didn't like it and the tyre exploded. Had to climb back up with flat tyre, drop the bike and take another one...

I'll go back to Lilane for sure.
