Papal Audience

I have booked tickets for Papal Audience, but do not have an idea of where to go for the Audience? Where exactly in Vatican city? Can I do the rest of Vatican city after the Papal Audience or would it be too late? Any suggestions?

Go to St. Peter's church. The audiences are in the square in front of the church on Wednesday mornings. Vatican City is 140 acres in the middle of Rome. It is the world's smallest country. And yes you can do the rest afterward; however, you will be doing it with all the other pilgrims attending the audience. So I would advise doing it on another day; possibly late in the day.

Hi Josh,
I live and work in Rome as a tour guide and as the Vatican is one of my specialities, I thought I would try and help you out.

Where the Papal Audience is held depends on the time of the year. In the warmer months it is in the piazza in front of St Peter's Basilica. During the winter months it is held in the side hall on the left hand side of the colonnade.

This is for Rex, yes you are correct, the Papal Audience is the general audience that the Pope gives on Wednesdays. On Sundays at noon he does a general blessing from the window of his apartments.

Tickets can also be easily obtained by simply asking the Swiss Guards at the bronze doors on the right side at the end of the colonnade (preferably the day before).

After the audience the basilica of St Peter will open again to the public(usually 12 noonish). You would however be wiser to head to the Museum and Sistine Chapel first as this closes at 2.20pm and the Basilica will stay open until 7pm.

The Vatican City is located close to the historical centre of Rome but on the other side of the River Tiber. You can easily arrive there by bus, metro or by taking a taxi.

I hope this helps you out but feel free to email me direct at [email protected] (or anyone else) if you need any other information.
Regards
Marianna

I am guessing that Marianna is the same lady that gave us a tour of the Vatican through the USO back in the spring of 1999. She was wonderful!
