I'm new here and Palenq helped me with a bit of travel as we haven't been to that many places. So thanks for helping a newbie Pal. Every time I saw you the same two people who own certain topics I guess advised everyone to ignore you, and brushed you off. They were not courteous at all and obviously wanted you to leave, I couldn't understand that. So I am very glad to see many people today who are appreciate of your contributions. RIP P

So sorry to hear this. Pal will be missed. Condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this. He was such a great presence on this forum and an especially enthusiastic promoter of trains. He will be missed.

Surfergirl Aug 25th, 2019 07:55 AM

Sorry to hear this as well. As a fellow train traveling poster, I remember there were a few times when anti-Pal posters insisted that, in response to my post agreeing with Pal on the topic, I was Pal using my Fodor's name! To which I responded, thanks for the compliment!

I am sorry to hear this.

Nice reply ;)

I love you surfergirl. I went back this morning and read a couple of old post. I wish I had seen that one.

Rest in peace, Pal. When I am in Europe next hopping on a train, I will think of you. I will miss seeing your name around here. My sincere condolences to your family. :rose:

Ditto. Well stated.

I just wanted to give my condolences. It is sad to lose one of us and more so someone who shared their knowledge so freely and openly. Pal certainly wasn't shy and will be greatly missed.

I couldn’t agree more with surfergirl. I left the forums a few years ago due to the way a couple of posters bullied others.
PalenQ was the opposite of that. He was respectful of others, generous with advice and seemed very kind.
I thought of him when I saw the current threads related to Amsterdam and Switzerland. I will raise a glass of Heineken to Pal (yes, I’m in my right mind).

i think he had a life well-lived and he will be missed here.
Wishing peace to his son and family members.

I disagreed with Pal a lot, but his train advice was very helpful when Mr. Pickle and I were planning our Italy trip. May his memory be a blessing to his friends and family.

How sad. I noticed how helpful he was to everyone, and it seemed that in every query about train travel, his advice would pop up. My condolences to his family.

Gone but not forgotten. You put up with a lot of rude people but you were true Mensch.

greytop13 Aug 27th, 2019 05:37 PM

I came on the board to ask a question about trains out of London and saw this thread. Sometimes PalenQ's contributions were criticized but he was always willing to help or answer a question as best he could. I know he helped me with planning several times. Rest in peace, friend.

Carolmom Aug 27th, 2019 06:16 PM

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I appreciated his insights and willingness to assist very much. I will miss seeing his replies. My condolences to his family and all here who knew him.

Sorry to add this a few days late. I have been thwarted a bit by the (new?) "two per day" rule, and wanting to include a link (to a post here on the forums!) - - so I had to "earn" the right to include a link by making five posts (as rexb - - even though I have the max limit? of 5000 posts as just "rex".

Seems rather surreal to come back to this forum in this specific window of time - - considering that I have visited Fodors maybe once a year, in the past 5? 6? years?... and bear witness to Fodorites' mourning the loss of one of their own.

I remember PalenQ, and I see the names of a few old-timers from waaaayyyy back when.

Moreover, I hope that no one will begrudge me for harking back to the deaths of Robespierre (and others)…

...there was a brief glimmer of light for our collective "Fodor-osity / camaraderie" when the death of Robespierre (ten years ago) led to this thread...

https://www.fodors.com/community/eur...idered-819290/

Somber sympathies for all who remember what PalenQ brought to this place... and to all impacted by the loss nowadays.

Best wishes for continued happy travels,

Rex, from Indiana (rexb... but also just "rex")

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. He has helped me with so many trips the past two decades. Thank you for sharing this information with all of us.

gomiki Aug 28th, 2019 04:38 PM

(rex, you are one of the missing. So glad to see you here in spite of the sad circumstance).
