Truly sorry to read this news. Rest in Peace Pal.

Another distinctive voice lost. No matter what name he posted under, it was impossible to mistake Pal’s voice for any other.

cruiseluv Aug 23rd, 2019 01:23 PM

I'm so sorry to hear this. I benefited many times from PalenQ's advice, he'll be missed. RIP

I’m very sorry to hear this. I was on trains today in Scotland and England and thought of Pal often through the day. My condolences to Pal’s family.

My condolences to Pal's family. He was extremely helpful to me as I tried to sort through Swiss trains. I enjoyed his many posts.

His spirit will live on for many years in all the old threads that get resucitated. He certainly communicated the sheer joy of travel.

Just last week I was considering correcting some of Palenq's inaccuracies on a topic about Rome, but I thought, "What the hell does it matter, and let it go." It must have been my better angel who suggested that to me.

PalenQ had such a very long and robust presence here; I'll miss his unique voice.
My sincere condolences go out to his family and especially to his son.

I'm so sorry to hear about Pal. I always appreciated his generous advice when I posted specific questions, recently about the travel pass in Switzerland. I'll be the beneficiary of his generosity next week in fact.
RIP, Pal. You are missed.

This is such sad news. Pal was unstinted with his generous advice about train travel and if he had a bee in his bonnet about Blackpool he accepted the ribbing he got about that and his love of Corrie with good humour. He was also a party to some memorable and highly amusing exchanges with David West, now also sadly deceased, in which bonnets and paint stripper featured frequently.

He will be deeply and sadly missed by all of us here. RIP my old Pal.

I am shocked by the news - I thought perhaps Pal had been blacklisted by Fodor's and had dropped out for that reason. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace PalenQ.

I have missed him so much in the last month. Someone would ask a question and I thought Pal will be along and answer and he didn't. A huge void. Be kind to one another.

Trophywife007 Aug 23rd, 2019 02:50 PM

Sad news, indeed. I was so hoping that Pal was recuperating somewhere reading and chuckling at these threads. He was a big part of the boards and his departure leaves a void. Yes, some people were annoyed by him, some were rude to him but as far as I can remember he seemed to live by the idea that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. Not everyone here is that generous, so for that I raise a glass to him.

I do hope he is pleasantly surprised by the hereafter; rest in peace, Pal. To his family, please accept my sincere condolences.

My condolences to Pal's family. He was a major character and very prolific poster on Fodor's.

Pal had a great sense of humor. This year, he pranked me by pretending to spoil Jeopardy! during the long run of champion James Holzhauer. Boy, was I mad the first time. Then it became a running joke. When I watch James on the Tournament of Champions, it just won't be the same.

travlsolo2 Aug 23rd, 2019 03:50 PM

I'll miss his unique voice. RIP Pal.

>>>According to Fodor's count, well over 78,000.<<<

I'm sure there are many more as there were multiple names (all similar) over the years and no posts before registration in 2003 would count in the tallies.

So sorry to hear of Pal's death. I enjoy his threads in the Lounge which always courted controversy but as others have said he seemed to take it in his stride.

SusanP Aug 23rd, 2019 04:17 PM

I wondered if something had happened, hadn't seen a post from him recently. RIP, Pal.

This is a wonderful description of Pal.
Rest in Peace Pal.

I am so sad and so shocked to hear this news. Pal was helpful to me regarding train travel as he was to so many other people. Someone mentioned he was 71. Much too young to die. And a bit scary since I think many of us are around that age. I certainly am, as is my husband. My condolences to his family!

It’s funny isn’t it how much people we’ve never met can touch us.

Pal was one of us. He’ll be missed.

What greater compliment can be given then to say those words.
