RIP Pal. You were unique. You could be irritating, insufferable and a thorn in everyone's side, but you were always warm and respectful, even when people were not to you. We will miss you. Sincere condolences to Pal's family and friends. He was one of a kind and is leaving a big void here on Fodor's.

I am very sad to read of Pal's death and agree with annhig regarding his regular Blackpool and Coronation Street comments. Those always made me smile. My condolences to his family.

Recently there was an epic thread about Switzerland, many hundreds of post and tens of thousands of views. Most people were burnt out on it.

At one point there was a lull in the action, maybe a couple of days. Pal added a one word post: "Topping".

Too funny, I chuckled all day over that.

I'm one of the many, many people who benefited from PalenQ's generosity in sharing his experiences with, and love of, travel. I also benefited from his grace and kindness. While saddened by our loss, I take solace in an image of him riding the rails once again and offer my sincere sympathies to his family.

I’ve been thinking about him a lot the last 24 hours since I heard the news. He will be missed. RIP Pal.

Rest In Peace Pal. My condolences to his family. He will be missed here on Fodors! Fodors just got a little duller without Pal.

Pal, you will be missed. A true gentleman. RIP.

Loved reading his extensive and passionate thoughts on organized religion as we were certainly in sync.

Sad news; Pal was such a presence on the Europe boards and always had train info to share.

Condolences to the family.

Condolences to Pal's family.
I will miss his energetic contributions especially about train travel (!!) and I will miss his lively interactions with other posters on such a wide range of other subjects.
RIP PalenQ

'Bye PAL

(See I didn't mention paint or Chunnel)

I am so sad to read about his passing. Disgusted on how he was treated on his last post!

Thank you, Percy, for beginning this thread.

Ironically, and perhaps not, Pal’s last posts here promoted quality universal healthcare, something he argued vehemently was sadly lacking in the US. Despite such regular petty assaults from some posters on such things as when his last trip to Europe was, he always plodded on with good-natured assistance in his near 80,000 posts. He will be missed.

My condolences to Pal’s family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. RIP Pal.

gomiki Aug 24th, 2019 09:33 AM

Pal, you will be missed more than you would ever have guessed. And there is no replacement for you.

My condolences to the family of PalenQ.

annhig Aug 24th, 2019 09:46 AM

well said Gomiki - and indeed everyone else.

A hui hou...until we meet again.

When I first joined Fodor's PAL and I talked a lot about cycling along the Mosel, always go West to East he said it's downhill and with the prevailing winds, take the train back. Very true.
