Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval

I was interested to read that a movie has been made about the Palais Ideal with Jacques Gamblin in the role of the postman, Cheval. We visited this interesting site in 2018 and really enjoyed our visit. The more we walked around, the more we discovered. It is a fascinating work of naive art and shows the amazing imagination, creativity and perseverance of one man for more than thirty years. It is well worth a visit if you are passing through the Drome.

The story of Ferdinand Cheval?s ideal palace

We stayed at the campsite right by it this year. We knew nothing about it when we arrived, it was pure coincidence, but it is an interesting place to visit. We liked the town too, though we only stayed one night there for some reason I forget.

I thought the movie was quite good, but of course helps to have been there in person. Here is my report for those who have not been there:

Rhon, I'll put the movie on my want list. Netflix at the moment doesn't have it, but I'll keep checking.

Kerouac, thanks for the link. I had a memory, not of visiting the place myself, but of seeing some excellent photos that were almost as good as a visit. Now that I've checked out your link, I believe your photo report is what I was remembering.

A friend of ours is always on the lookout for outsider art. She has visited some places in France that to me were depressing. We haven't brought ourselves to see the Robert Tatin museum which she recommended to us, even though we're close by on every trip. On the other hand, we liked the House of Broken Crockery in Louviers and were sorry we missed Maison Picassiette in Chartres.
