Padua & Venice

Is it possible to stay at a hotel in Padua and make day visits to Venice. I find nice things to see in Padua and it's close by train to Venice. Has anyone done this?
Thanks, Bob

Bob---
As the old saying goes, anything is possible. The old town of Padova inside the walls is really interesting to me, and there are a few neat old hotels there. The train station is just outside the north side of the walled city, so it wouldn't be a bad walk from anywhere in the old town. But you will spend perhaps 1.5 to 2 hours getting into Venice, and the same getting back into your hotel in Padova. If that sounds OK, then you certainly have a workable situation. I stayed in the Majestic Toscanelli hotel in Padova and enjoyed it, but it isn't a luxury hotel. Good rooms, somewhat small, good staff, ensuite bathrooms, and what I thought was a very good restaurant right in the hotel. Enjoy your trip wherever you stay.

Good morning, Bob As Wayne states that
you will use time going to and fro from
Venice to Padua. In staying in Venice
you would have that much time there,
with more to do and excellant ristorantes. Padua is a very nice city
with not too much to see. Understand
the Scrovengi Chapel is closed and will
be for sometime. Unless you want to stay
there, Padua makes an excellant day trip
out of Venice... Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
Thanks Wayne for the information. A train ride like that could be to long. This town look interesting to me to. Maybe "undiscovered" and less crowded than Venice. I will check out the hotel tip. Bob

The express train takes only 30 minutes. We stayed @ the Italia , which is very near the station. Considering the cost and the crowds we encountered in August last year, Padova is a welcomed alternative....Happy travels

We stayed in Padua- less expensive and touristy than Venice and yet still less than an hour by train. We heard that the Scrovegni Chapel which is truly amazing is due to reopen soon but with visitors limited.Lots of other great buildings such as the Basilica di Sant'Antonio, the Eremitani Church, the Palazzo della Ragione and the Duomo with tis 12th century Baptistry with vibrant frescos all aroud the ceiling.
Hotels: The Donatello in Via dei Santo
Restaurants: we enjoyed Osteria L'Anfora in Via Soncin

If you like buying shoes there is a great shoe market every Saturday in Padova. We stayed there for a week and used it as a base to tour Venice, Verona and the charming town of Bolzano all by train. Padova and the Veneto has more to see than Venice. We also took the bus to Venice. It took about 30 minutes. Padova is a University town with lots to see and do.
