Paddington Hotel
We are arriving at Heathrow at 9:15 PM in late May, and plan to take the Heathrow Express/Connect into Paddington. We are leaving from King's Cross the next day, so we are looking for a nice hotel within short walking distance of Paddington station. A double for around £75 would be fine; a good breakfast thrown in would be great. Any suggestions?
Many thanks, John

I just returned from Hilton Paddington. It is definitely above your price range, however, you may be able to find a great price on the Hilton website. Look under UK Breaks section.
You get off the Heathrow Express and the hotel is up an escalator next to Starbucks. It's very, very convenient.
Alternatively, there is Hilton Metropole located down the street - about 3 blocks walk which should be cheaper.
Those are the closest hotels I saw to the station which I would recommend.

we stayed here in June
http://www.darlingtonhotel.co.uk/ and it was excellent - yes it is a budget hotel but rooms are fine (small but everything you need) and very clean. What sets it apart from other budget hotels is that the staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good, they will keep luggage for you etc. Couldn't recommend it enough for the price. Lots of restaurants and pubs nearby and 5 mins from Paddington station.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! And particularly thank you to eliza3 and corky33, who recommended the Darlington Hyde Park. I spent my usual hours noodling through websites, and was at times told that best rate I could get there was £120, and then that they were booked up. But then TripAdvisor.com claimed I could get a room there for under £50. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I hit the button, and Expedia.ca came up with a Queen double at a promotional rate of £15!!
If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't have known about the Darlington, and I almost certainly wouldn't have followed up on an unknown hotel offering rooms for under £50 when I was looking for something around £75. £15???
Did I say thank you?
Cheers, John
