"package-tour" hotels in Greece

I've heard people mention "package-tour" hotels in greece and that they are to be avoided... We are not going to greece with a tour, but could somebody tell me what a "package-tour" hotel is?

Thanks!
Renee

Spring break for the masses...
Go to the next travel agent and ask for All Inclusive, free beer, wine and spirits and look for some company to take you there as cheap as possible. You will end up with masses of other folks (rather simple like me ;-) ) and the daily rythm of food - beach - drink till you drop - plus animation.

It's generally a largish hotel with most modern conveniences on a beach that has become popular with people of one or more northern European nationalities who only want sun, sand and sea -- generally with copious amounts of beer -- as cheaply as possible. The hotels are generally offered in an airfare-and-hotel package.

Usually big 3 or 4 Star Hotels in popular tourist beachy areas that are used by the big tour companies. They will have large swimming pools and advertise pool and other entertainment.

Stick to smaller, boutique hotels or Taverna's in less touristy areas and you should be OK

A 'package-tour' hotel is accomodation booked with a return air ticket sometimes including transport between the accomodation and the airport.

The accomodation can be of any type from small family run hotels/pensions up to large all inclusive/americanised resort hotels and even 5 star luxury hotels.

There is an enormous range of accomodation available.

The term 'package-tour hotel' can also be an insulting term missused by British upper class ignorant snobs who only go to 6* hotels.
