There are direct trains from Conwy to Chester and Bangor/Holyhead. It is a request stop, but the trains will stop. There are trains to Llandudno Junction to connect with the trains to Betwys-y-Coed and Llandudno, although it would be simpler to take a bus to the latter.

Man those old lifts were creepy (last I visited around WW1) - huge heavy iron grates for fronts that - and it creaked as it moved ever so slowly -thought it would get stuck - next few times I walked up the down staircase!

I was offline with bad virus for a week followed by a couple weeks of just exhaustion...wonderful to come back and see all the added replies, thanks to all! I look forward to reading more thoroughly and clicking on links. We're booked in Chipping Campden our first few nights, then Conwy the next few, and are working on choosing a neighborhood and lodging for London for our last 4 nights.
You've inspired us to plan to do Greenwich that last Friday. Plus, dh's childhood dog was named Cutty Sark!
