I remember when Liverpool was selected as the cultural capital a few years back.
The same judges were asked to go to Iraq, because if they could find culture in Liverpool, then they would definately be able to find WMD in Iraq

I think its great...ok I have never been there and have been threatening to come across for a weekend as its so close to Dublin. Have my other half almost convinced as he thinks its still like the 80's (Dublin managed to pull itself up and so has Liverpool and many other cities). I have been told its a fun weekend away from irish pals, shopping, beatles tour and nights out...also closer than London...I am up for it!
Ok but My other half was laughing his arse off at that live modern version of the nativity. It was pretty funny/awful es0pecially the singing. It awas a modern version of the nativity and mary was a young single mum and Joseph is an asylum seeker and could have been good but was outdoors, live locations and the singing was awful. But it was still sort of amusing in a way I doubt they intended. It loooked great with all the peoiple outside a main square in the city.
Liverppol...why not! We did feck all when it was Dublin.

"The portside has a repository of ship manifests. "
Eh? There's no serious collection of emigrant manifests in Liverpool - or anywhere else in Britain. There's a tiny collection of first class Cunard manifests for the mid-19th century in Liverpool University library, and an equally tiny set of records of the Liverpool Catholic Children's Emigration Society. Otherwise there's just the Board of Trade passenger lists from the 1890s to the 1960s - but they're kept at the Public Record Office in Kew, near London
Continental migrants to the New World might have left a few immigration records at the Liverpool Record Office if they transhipped through Liverpool. But there was no bureaucratic record kept in Britain of people leaving, and since New World interest in immigration is far greater than Old World interest in emigration, virtuaslly all the physical records of passengers are in North America, Australasia, South America or South Africa.
Liverpool's Maritime Museum has a lot of anecdotal papers about emigrants, and a useful set of records of ships' sailings. But there's no passenger list repository of Liverpool ships anywhere that I know of - and certainly not in Liverpool

Hey, hey, I'm goin' back to Liverpool in June. It's pretty booked up for this Liverpool Sound concert, but I will try to stroll through the lobby of the Hard Day's Night Hotel. A new shopping/restaurant area is opening, along with museums, hotels, and, I hear, a dock for luxury liners. Gooooo, Liverpool!

Just read that Sir Paul just did a concert at Anfield Stadium in Liverpuddle - marking the 41st anniversary of Sgt Pepper release or recording (man makes me feel old) and for the first time sang some of John's best songs in public
