Owel,Toro,Singel hotels in AMS?
Has anyone stayed in 1) Owl, 2) Toro, or 3) Singel hotels? These hotels are recommended by someone, somewhere. In fact, I tried to book hotels for our October trip.

- Canal House is available at FL365. That's a lot more expensive than I read. So it is out (or is it worth it?)

- I also check with Owl. Sounds good and reasonable at FL220. But someone said it is just an o.k. hotel.

- Toro and Singel hotels sound very good and reasonable. Has anyone stayed there?

I'm looking for a nice, clean, and comfortable hotel in the $100-150. Any information/recommendation and input are appreciated. Thanks a lot.
The OWL Hotel is a three star hotel and a wonderfuly pleasant place to stay.

Stayed there in 1993, 1994, and this year 2000. Friends of mine (on my recommendation)_ stayed there in 1997.

The breakfast room is lovely and charming. Management pleasant and Enlish speaking.

It is only two or three short blocks to the Leidesplein, a short walk from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.

Would't consider staying anywhere else in Amsterdam.

Depends what area you want to stay in.Owl is convenient for museums bur far from the centre, very nice but no safe in room - no prob to use the one in reception. Estheria is much more expensive (slightly better)& convenient for city centre.
Both are in good quiet areas.
My fave is the hotel Doelen in Nieuwdoelenstrat in a quiet part of the old town.(as far away from the redlight as you can get & still be in the old town)
Cheaper & IMO better than the Estheria, roomier, grand old style.
I think the official name is the hotel Doelen Golden Tulip or somesuch as it is
part of the Tulip chain. You'll find it on all the sites & guides, also many package deals incude it in their choices.Internet access in the foyer.
Splendidly arrogant receptionist.(I hate fawners)
Wonderful view over Amstel from breakfast room.
