My husband and I went last Sept; you are going to love this area! Unlike Paris the people are very warm and welcoming. We arrrived at CDG, rented a car and drove to Bayeaux. This is a quaint town that was not demolished in WWII. We stayed there two nights, then went to Caen. From there we drove to upper Normandie and stayed two nights in Vierville-Sur-Mer. It would have been easy to drop the car in Caen or Bayeux, however we drove to the Schlumberger Museum at Crevecoeur and that was an experience. We got some magnificent photos of churches, the valleys, the graveyards of that area. Are you returning the car because of the $? I would highly recommend that you keep it, unless you are going back again soon. France is easy to drive in; get the signs off the internet and have a cell phone in case of an emergency. For the cost of one of the tours your can keep the car a few days and do the area yourself, at your own pace! We returned to Paris, (where we stayed two weeks)checked in, unloaded the car, returned it. We then took the train back to the hotel area.
You do not need a car in Paris.
Feel free to email me [email protected] if you wish! "Ont un grand voyage"

Last September, we rented a car at CDG, drove to/around Normandy, then drove back to CDG to drop off car. That worked very well, especially since it gave us a chance to stop in Rouen for a visit, which I highly recommend. Stayed in a lovely country B&B (Le 33) (http://www.likhom.com/anglais/site_a...code=NP6006004) on the way back to CDG, which was close to the castle/stables at Chantilly and Senlis which are also worth visits. You can always take the train from CDG to get into Paris, then.

My price is coming out the same regardless of the drop-off location. Thanks for all the ideas!
