Orvieto cave tours
We are going to be driving from Siena to Rome on our last day (spending the night at the Rome Airport Hilton). We are interested in stopping to see Orvieto and were interested in touring the Etruscan caves there. Do we need to schedule this in advance or can you just show up and join a tour that day? Thanks

You can join a tour that day. When we were there we got a package ticket at the base of the funicular. It was good for: round trip on the funicular, cave tour, admission to the campanile, admission to a museum, and full use of the buses around Orvieto. there is a tourist office at the base of the funicular, where you can park which sells these.

Tom,
We did the Underground Tour in Orvieto recently, it was quite interesting. There were only the 2 of us plus the guide! We bought tickets for later the same day, they have different times depending on what language you want the tour in. We bought the tickets at the tourist info office opposite the Duomo. (Visiting the Duomo is a must in my book, try and see the small chapel inside on the right, there is a small charge after 10am.)
Kay

Thanks everybody. Glad we can wing it that day as we're going to spend part of the morning in Siena and then head on to Orvieto in the early afternoon. Should have time to hit all the sites mentioned as not exactly planning to arrive at the airport hotel until late (don't want the majority of our last night spent watching planes take off).
