Opinions on these Rome hotels?

My husband and I are narrowing down hotels in the city of Rome. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the following places:

Hotel Paba on Via Cavour
Hotel Mimosa near Pantheon
Locanda Carmel in Trastevere
Pensione Erdarelli by Spanish Steps
Hotel Piccolo near Campo de Fiori
Hotel Navona on Via dei Sediari
Hotel Pensione Merano on Via Veneto
Hotel Spring House
Hotel Smeraldo by Piazza Navona
Hotel Sole by Campo de Fiori

We can't seem to find any detailed information from anyone who has stayed there. Any recommendations?
There are quite a few positive reports on Smeraldo here. Brenda, we stayed at the Hotel Spring House last May and were very happy with it. It is just a very short walk to the Vatican and St. Peter's, where there is a large taxi stand - you never have to wait. The hotel is modern, with very nice rooms and lovely bathrooms, very important! The complimentary breakfast was one of the nicest we had anywhere in Italy. We liked the location, as we needed to get into the Vatican Museum early on Monday morning before we trained to Venice in the afternoon. They held our luggage after we checked out while we visited the museum. The hotel is on a very quiet sidestreet, absolutely no noise. We found it very easy to just taxi to a starting point each day in Rome, then walk until we were tired, relax in a piazza with a glass of wine, and taxi back. Other visits to Europe we've always taken buses or subways, but the taxi is so cheap and easy in Rome, that it was a wonderful way to get around. Hope this helps. Joyce

We stayed at the Hotel Springhouse for one night. It's a nice hotel, as above poster said, and it's very convenient for the Vatican. However, if you only plan to spend a day at the Vatican, and the rest of your time across the river, it's not a good location. In fact, it's not even on the near side of the Vatican to the Centro Storico, it's way around. Look at a map. There are lots of other hotels more convenient to more things.
