Opinions of this apartment in Rome please!

I'm looking into renting this apartment in Rome for an upcoming trip. I know it looks a little rough, but any comments on the location or the company would be appreciated! We aren't planning on spending that much time in the place, just need a safe and fairly clean place to sleep each night! Thanks for your input!

Have you checked www.slowtrav.com? There are many, many reviews there of apts in Rome and rental agencies. Quite frankly, for 90 Euros per night in the off season, I think you could do better. Sorry but the pictures of the apt. look very depressing.

But maybe you are not as picky as I am. I would just suggest that you look a little more. Maybe you already have....

I will be there in May, so not exactly the off season, so would 90E a night during high season be a bad price? It seems low from what I've seen, but I haven't done a lot of apartment rentals abroad. Thanks!

Ok- how does this apartment look instead? It is more expensive, but still within my budget, barely, and might be a little nicer? Thanks!

Hi,

I think May is considered high season. I am no expert, have never rented an apt. Just giving you the same advise I would be following for myself. I would do an exhaustive search before settling on something.

usually the pictures look better that the reality. Have you looked at what othere agencies have to offer?

I would strongly advise you go and look at the slowtrav website.

Good luck!

Well, it looks a little like Ralph and Alice Kramdenini just moved out ... so I'd suggest looking further, even if you come back to this one.

There are lots of sites people trust.

I like the listings on this one, though I can't vouch for the company. http://sleepinitaly.com/files/apt_roma.html#sleeps2

I looked there- my limit for price is around 110E a night, and thats on the highest end I can afford. Thats why I'm looking at some of the lower cost places. Did the second one look any better?

And remember, the "second floor" in the Trastevere apartment is the third floor in U.S. parlance. If you are young a spry, which we are not, that might be a deal breaker.

You will enjoy Rome, I'm sure.

Why don't you look at this site? They have a lot of apts around 100-110 euros per day that look much nicer.

I just noticed that Thomas above already gave you this link.

The second one you posted doesn't even show pictures!

There are so many agencies out there. These two you are using I ahve never heard of.

Sorry, I don't have any more wisdom to offer. I already suggested that you check the resources at slowtrav, and you have not even acknowledged if you have done that or not.

There is no way I would stay in that first apt. you showed, even if it was free!

The second one has pictures down the side (at least the link showed them when I clicked on them). Yes, my companions and I are all 22-23 (hence the budget accommodations in the first place). The problem I have with sleepinitaly is that I've seen many negative reviews of them and it may say 110E, but when you email them for the total cost, that is the cost for 2 people only- you throw that third person in and its another 15E a night, so it ends up being beyond our price range.

However, thanks very much for the recommendation.

If you haven't already, take a look at: realrome.com

(you'll need to click 'rome centre' apartments)

This is an agency that specializes in providing clean, decent, budget-oriented apartments. The agency and its owner, Tim Pearson, get high praise on these boards- you can do a search for "Tim Pearson" or "realrome" to read more.

I don't think that's a bad price for May, even though it's a little, um, basic. When I was around your age some friends and I rented a very basic apartment in Trastevere and had a blast. From cross-pollinate.com. I don't know if the apartment is still listed or what. That was, ahem, a while ago.

You asked about location (very good, could be loud at night, but if you're one of the revelers, no big deal) and agency (I've never heard of it).

The Pantheon one is much nicer, of course, in terms of decor, but I don't see any windows?

I have rented from Real Rome also, by the way, and they are great.

At your age, I wouldn't worry about rickety furniture, lots of stairs, etc., as much as location and a reputable agency.

Happy New Year!

I have looked at RealRome, but I sent a request for availability and have not heard back from him yet. I think it might be the time of year- was he very prompt when you two rented from him? He has some places that look nice (upper end of my price range, but oh well), so I'm trying to hold out until he gets back to me.

It must be the holiday season, I'm sure you'll hear back from him soon. I've booked an apartment from realrome for next fall, and Tim Pearson returned all my emails within 24 hours (or the next business day). Given the way the holidays have fallen this year, many businesses may not be back to normal until next Monday, at the latest.

I do think it's worth waiting to hear back from him. From all my own research into apartments in Rome, realrome seems to offer one of the best combinations of budget prices and reliabilty/trustworthiness (which can be hard to find!)

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Apres,

Thanks for posting the link and about your experience with Realrome. One of the reasons I have never take the plunge and rented in Italy is the lack of reliability you read about way too often.

Copper, Good luck to you in your quest.

If you wouldn't mind sharing a bath, check out www.the-beehive.com. Private double rooms are well under your budget limit, and the Beehive gets very good reviews on Tripadvisor.com. No kitchen, but your savings would allow for more restaurant meals. (The Beehive has apartments for larger groups, but they might rent you one bedroom. They also have dorm rooms if you really want to go low budget.)

If you wouldn't mind a curfew of 11:00 p.m. or midnight and fewer amenities, check out www.santasusana.org for lodging in convents. This option can be even cheaper than the Beehive.

Good luck!
