I vote for Prague, having just returned from there, and having fallen in love with the city.
A city I liked in France was Rouen, which you can see in a day, but combine with the Normandy D-Day sites or Mont St. Michel.
What about Dublin? I haven't been there, but I hear it's fun.

Actually, given that the Festival desn't really start to bite till a little later in the month, Edinburgh might well be a good shout- assuming you enjoy the buzz of a busy place, like to see the odd show and aren't too fussy where you stay. Accommodation WILL be available, but choice will be limited.
From London, you could go just about anywhere- Toulouse, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Barcelona, Girona, all for example.
How about Copenhagen- lovely in the summer.

Berlin is out--way too big for a couple of days.
Edinburgh does sound very nice but there are other cities just a little bit higher on my list, which is also true regarding Leon and Nice.
Switzerland seems to have lots of interesting little towns so would save it for later.
Prague- After doing a little bit of reading, I take back my '2 hour' comment! and it does looks absolutely beautiful.
Now I feel torn between Prague, Munich and Northern Belguim...I very much admire preserved old architecture, which seems to be quite prevalent in Prague so I think Prague it is!!

Could anyone please suggest some discount airlines websites where I can book my LON-PRG flight?
I've just checked on the websites of BA and Czech air, and the cheapest ticket costs around $350 which is not exactly what I expected...
I wonder why Ryan air doesn't fly to such a popular tourist destination like Prague!

You can try looking at www.skyscanner.net to see if any budget airlines fly that route; this site seems to be a bit more current than the www.whichbudget.com option

mnss: First of all I don't get the "anti-southwest" dig. Southwest is a very efficient airline that gets you from point A to Point B on time and for less money than most other US lines. Now - about easyJet - I would rather fly them than Ryan Air or some other discount lines.
