Olympic Airlines -- Opinions?

Olympic Air seems to be showing up on United Connections as a carrier flying all over Europe. Any opinions of them as a carrier?
Have flown Olympic Athens to Amsterdam & within Greece both on larger routes & smaller. They are quite adequate. Staff speak English & they fly Boeing or Airbus equipment. Go for it!
I agree with Boris. Olympic Airways in an o.kay airlinecompany. I have travelled a lot of times to Athen and other greek destinations from Copenhagen and have always been satisfied with them. Additionally I can tell you that it last year was voted one of the safest companies to travel with talking about accidents.
Have a nice trip
Sanne

I'm very happy to say that I've flown Olympic to Greece from the Uk many times and went on to connect with some of their internal flights. I've never had anything other than a good flight with them and have to say that their inflight meals, in my mind, are better than British Airways. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

One thing worth mentioning though is that their crew although efficient may give the impression of being a little dour. This is prevalent in most of the service industries in Greece and travellers shouldn't be offended. What I can say though is that when you get a smile it is an honest one..quite unlike some of the other carriers where it can be false and almost patronising.

We have flown with Olympic Airlines quite a few times from Toronto to Greece. Having been on other airlines, I'm sorry that I have to say, their attention to safety in the cabin is lacking. The flight attendents did not ensure seatbelts were fastened on take-offs or landings, overhead compartments were left open during take-off, persons sitting at emergency exits were not instructed on how to use them. I would probably fly with them if I absolutely had to, but I would not make them my first choice. Also when flying the 10 seaters from Athens to the islands, the emergency exits were WIRED shut--thank god we didn't have to use them!! Next time, I am bringing wire cutters with me.

I too would like to respond to the question and add my own observations and experience with Olympic Airlines. Olympic has an excellent record for safety of flights, to my knowledge they have not had any accidents or other unforeseen problems. The service is very nice, the crew is polite and helpful and, like one of the previous writers mentioned, when you get a smile, you know it's heartfelt. I have not experienced any glaring safety violations, like the last writer did, myself. Occasionally they have flights delayed but nothing more major than that. Overall, very good.
I've flown Olympic a number of times, and apart from their being habitually late - which is sometimes a relief, when you're connecting on Olympic, too, otherwise a source of some concern - I've been very satisfied. The crew is helpful, the service is good, and I haven't noticed any serious breaches of safety rules. (It really is extraordinary if grown people need somebody to ensure that they've locked their safety belts.)
I hope to be flying Olympic again this summer.
Jens

Reserve for flights early on Olympic! Just got back from trip and was told to wait to book when we got in Greece. Tried for 14 days no flights were available to go to Istanbul and had to take a traintrip from "hades" on way back with passport check on Greek side holding the group up and causing a 10 hour delay. So-- I would highly suggest to book from statesand not wait.

Have to contribute my 2 cents worth. Flew Olympic in October to Athens. Most arrogant crew I have ever encountered Unfriendly and certainly did not even try to be accommodating....who cares if the smile is real; iIt still goes a long way toward good PR. Cabin temp. had to be approximately 75 degrees and when pasengers (quite a number of them) asked if the temp. was going to be lowered, they were give a flat "NO".
Our crew preferred to spend their time chatting among themselves rather than assisting passengers. Also know of their safety record......so like all passengers, we went for that.
On a scale......I'd give them a 5.

I agree with Jean. The service on Olympic is AWFUL. The crew do not seem to know what a call button is for. After I had my call light on for a half hour when I was "boxed in" by a sleeping passenger, I finally crawled over him to get a drink. I found the crew reading newspapers and they told me to get back to my seat! How can such a wonderful friendly country allow itself to be represented by such a surly airline?
