I don't think even Tony could have such a long slip of the tongue, and it was Cherie initiating it, and various comments about "keeping it up", with her being a Catholic it's a wonder there aren't more new arrivals for New Labour.

"My" man will ahve won hands down- living, as I do, in the Liberal Democrat republic of Gordon.

The Liberal Democrats will be the success story of this election, mark my words.

I have to go now. I'm scrutineering at the count.

um, keeping WHAT up? But speaking of cool hip men in politics, (not necessarily Tony Blair) that mayor of Venice-man, can he dress! he is the coolest of the cool-hippest of the hip 60's rads-check out this photo of him on the comune of Venezia website:

english.comune.venezia.it/sindaco/

Cute huh? A Marxist philosopher who hates mass tourism! That's too ironically funny!

Oh Spygirl, different strokes. I think the mayor of Venice is terribly cute--just my type.

He likes Kant. I like Kant.

Yet another reason to go to Venice. He's a little old for me, but...

We had a great candidate/party for our local seat, some woman was standing for the party called 'The vote for yourself rainbow dreamtime party' Now that beats the hell out of Labour in my books.

Well, at least your leader doesn't butcher the English language routinely so count your blessings.

No no no my dear! I read a report of this official interview in another paper...

Sadly Tony "can't keep it down" Blair is getting back into power for the last time, another four years of gloom...I'm very tempted to leave the UK for somewhere with more natural class.

People on this board worry about what to wear in London, if you really knew what the majority of younger Brits are like, you'd have none of these worries at all!

I think Heathrow is not bad for an airport, certainly nicer than Stansted.

Spygirl, I recommend reading Private Eye at some point, particularly the parish news (and which City are your boys in??).

Watching the programme about body language the other night has taken all the fun out of election night - you really can tell who's won (if they know) from how they stand on the stage before it's announced.

sheilaritchie: HOW did I know you were Liberal Democratic?

A few years ago (like 15) they seemed poised to take off, then were blown away by New Labour.

As New Labour turns out to be New-nothing-much, maybe the L-Ds will flourish -- like the Liberal Party of old, the party of principle.

Somehow I guessed Sheila might be LibDem like me (though I seem to have a penchant for living in the most unfriendly territory for us, I can't think why).

Somehow I guessed MK2 might not be any keener on TB than I, albeit from a probably rather different standpoint. I'm not sure, though, what would count as somewhere with 'natural class' to live in. Somehow that doesn't go with contemporary democratic politics. Name me a head of government without feet of clay!

How could you think I'd be anything else?

We did well last night. Not as well as we should have but still OK. Largest group since 1929.

I liked Noel Gallagher's comment that he would vote Labour because if the Conservatives win "Phil Collins is threatening to come back and live here. And let's face it, none of us want that."

"sheilaritchie: HOW did I know you were Liberal Democratic? "

Well obviously because she is a woman of superior intelligence. Guess how I voted;-)

After the last election, Charlie Kennedy had a lot of posters up thanking people for voting for him. I thought that was very sweet and I've not seen anything like it elsewhere.

Me too, as a former lifelong Old Labour. Unfortunately pro-war Blairite Nigel Griffiths hung on here by 400 votes.

I was working as presiding officer in a Glasgow polling station yesterday (7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. )

A fairly depressing experience, actually, with a less than 50% turnout - at our station at any rate.

As the average age of those who turned up to vote must have been around 70 or so, it's clear that apathy still rules.

Me too, although I'm normally Labour. But I've got the youngest MP in parliament, and her youthful enthusiasm wins over the old experienced cynics for me every time.

If anyone really wants facts and figures about the election:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/vote_2005

I see their Fun&Games section invites you 'go for a swing on Peter Snow's gadget': this is not as much fun as it sounds.

There are also links to all the party manifestoes, so you can find out what we were supposed to be thinking about...

...and even David Dimbleby made reference to our "five times a night" premier at some point in the small hours of this morning.

The Tories will be in next time around, they've lots of new young faces appearing creating a more youthful party dynamic. Also, Tony will be going shortly, after all he needs an higher salary to pay off his 13000GBP per month mortgage on his new "parish property". Gordon Brown will never ever be elected by the public, he's the most revolting creature with bitten finger nails, and a pasty face, what a mess!

I give the vicar a year or so before he goes on to the after dinner circuit.
