off we go, into the wild blue yonder...

all packed, and twiddling my thumbs until I head to my friend's house for a ride to the airport. Venice here I come! look for a trip report in the coming weeks.

I've got 14 rolls of film (just in case) AND a digital camera (for an 8 day trip). also a tape measure, and thanks to everyone for their advice on how to use it! a couple of guidebooks, a book for the plane & my italian primer, some old turtlenecks/sweaters & two old pairs of jeans which are getting canned once I've worn 'em a few times. 2 nice outfits - 1 knit dress, one sweater/pantset (just in case). I'm all set.

actually about half the stuff I am taking I plan to throw out once I've finished with it. (nothing like sample sizes of everything) and hurrah for old socks & underwear.

Thyra your advice about packing was great - rolling the things up definitely compacts everything. between the two bags I doubt they weighs 35 pounds total. God knows what it will weigh when I come back...

later gators! see you online when I return...

I enjoy all the great tips on packing here too. Did you remember plastic bags and washclothes as well?

Just wondering, why do you need the tape measure? and won't they have corkscrews there or am I missing something?

yup, plastic bags, that too.

tape measure - "inside" joke. I have to get my brother a leather coat, without the benefit of him being there to try one on. I'm still a little apprehensive about finding one which will fit properly - kinda hard to return.

the corkscrew - I don't want to have to hunt one down when I buy a bottle to take back to my room. (I HOPE to find some places in Florence for wine tastings...) Brunello di Montalcino, here I come...

and there you have it.

Bye Beth!
Have a great time, we will want descriptions of sights seen, and food tasted and the "model" you used for your brother's jacket!
Buon viaggio.
