Off to Beilstein

My OH has just told me he has booked a weekend at Haus Lipmann in Beilstein for next weekend as a treat for me What a sweetheart.
Guess I'll have to let him watch the rugby tomorrow night now
Must phone the kennels in the morning to book the pooches in for a few days.

We really liked that hotel. We ate at the Haus Lipmann restaurant and found the food to be very good indeed.

We talked to the chambermaid one day, and when we told her we came from Washington, she said, "Oh, the Evergreen State." It turned out she had worked as an apprentice carpenter in one of the coastal towns near Seattle.

We took a little trip to Burg Eltz, which is now my favorite castle in Germany--or anywhere else, come to think of it.

Thankyou both of you. I shall certainly look into Burg Eltz. Good to here the food is good at the hotel. He found it from Fodor's and TA reviews aparently. I am so looking forward to it. Just have to keep my fingers crossed next weekend will be good weather!

Oh, you will love Haus Lipmann! They were so accomodating to my every need. There was so much food (and I'm not a big eater) and I always had to leave some. They would come to me and ask if they could bring me something else. I told them I loved it, I just don't eat a lot.

Their hotel was spotless and very, very comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful. Make sure you check out the castle ruins nearby (a short walk uphill).

Have fun!

Well I've just got back.
We had a really great couple of days. The weather was cloudy, with a few sunny interludes. The autumn colours were astounding, and would have been even better with a bit more sun. The whole area is lovely.

What a wonderful hotel Haus Lipmann is. OUr room overlooked the river. We liked watching the ferry going back and forth. We ate at the hotel both nights, chose the set meal each evening (€15pp for hotel guests) and enjoyed it all.

Sadly we didn't get to Burg Eltz this trip. We were going to go today on our way home, but it was raining so hard that we couldn't face the walk through the woods to the castle. We'll have to save it for another trip.

Hetismij,

We have been to Cochem and enjoyed it. I am considering a day trip from Bacharach to Beilstein on our upcoming trip. Is Beilstein a worthwhile day trip?

Thank you!

I agree, definitely worth an overnight. Hotel Haus Lipmann is beautiful. Burg Eltz is a wonderful castle. We enjoyed the Mosel more than the Rhine.
