Hello breathe, I personally would not be able to wear any kind of stocking, pantihose whatever if I were wearing a shoe that was backless. I agree, you would be slipping and sliding around. The last formal event I went to I had on evening pumps (closed toe and closed heel) and wore evening style sheer black pantihose. That was perfect for the event and what I wore.

From what you have explained I would say no hoseiry of any kind. Otherwise I think you will be wobbling around all night, LOL. Best wishes to you.

"If I decide to wear nylons, and they would only be sheer and as close to my leg color as possible, how do I prevent my closed toe heel shoe with no strap from slipping and sliding everywhere?"

Was this Cinderella's problem - they didn't have quality glue back then?

at the risk of stating the obvious, how about doing a test run, with and without before your event?

doesn't much matter which looks better if you're falling off your high heels.

The little things you put in your shoes to keep mules or slides on are called "Foot Petals". I've bought them in little gift shop type places, lingerie shops, independent shoe shops, etc.

HI--It took me till now to finally realize that your shoes are backless!! That is a kind of sandal, IMO and therefore would seem to be the kind of shoe with which one does not wear stockings...or whatever we are calling them!!

Okay, so far, I have stayed out of this, as the middle-age-man-fashion-ignoramus that I am...

but...

<<That is a kind of sandal, IMO ...>>

read again...

<<closed toe slip on heels with no strap...>>

How is this a "sandal"!

Maybe a &quot;slipper&quot; - - but not a <i>sandal</i>, as I understand the word.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast (or that page SeaUrchin referenced... or whatever!)

Best wishes,

Rex

p.s. - - this thread has SO, so... nothing to do with Europe travel - - but at least its message header doesn't break the &quot;golden rule&quot;

(Put a message header on your post for your neighbor... as you would have your neighbor put a message header on each post for you!)

Breathe,

Wear whatever you're most comfortable wearing.

Try out the shoes with hose (whatever kind) and see if you slip around. And remember, it might be cold in Chicago.

Alternately, the no-hose look is very popular, and you can use something like Jergen's Natural Glow moisturizer to give your legs a nice color.

If you look comfortable, it doesn't matter what you are wearing and what others think.

Don't worry about it and have a good time.

Have you seen the toeless hose--can't think of the brand right now...I wore them about a month ago w/a strappy sandal to a black tie affair. It gave my legs a finished look and hid the fact they are scary white but my toes didn't looked webbed as if I were wearing traditional pantihose.

Me personally, I don't like seeing open toed shoes w/pantihose...and I think on most people the off black ultrasheers look better than the black ultrasheers...

Just my .02

I just reread what I wrote. I wore nude toeless hose, not black. (They stay on your feet b/c it has a little thong-y like stitch that slips between your big toe and the 2nd one.

Hope this makes sense!!

Donna Karan makes toeless pantyhose, and Hanes might; they used to.

In this case, if I understand breathe properly, her shoe is a covered toe, but a backless shoe. Like what some people call a mule. Covered toe, high heel, backless shoe.
Oh my, we are going to drive poor Rex crazy, LOL!!

Ira dear (you know I adore and pay attention to your opinions, with or without 'Prosecco', but what is 'clocking'?

To 'breathe' -- as far as wearing pantyhose or not, it depends (in my opinion only) on how elegant you want to appear. Let us know please. This question is an interesting &quot;study&quot; in &quot;how one wants to appear&quot;. Thanks for bringing it up.

OK Rex, I stand corrected, but what I meant by sandal is a shoe that leaves a part of your foot uncovered, thereby making the stockings look a little odd...Again, only my opinion, which is what Breathe was requesting of us...Also, I fear, like others, that in stockings she will fall off her shoes and potentially injure herself...No joke, I heard of this happening to someone.

LOL, socialworker, I routinely step out of my mules or fall out of them
You have to hang on to them with your toes and sometimes you loose your grip

I am impressed with Ira's knowledge of fashion!! Good for you Ira. Clocking is a design on the back of the stocking that goes from the ankle and up the back of the leg a bit with a design. I am not sure in this day and age if the stocking also has a seam as the stockings with clocking did many years ago. But I think dear Ira would know. It is a very fun and sophisicated look with the correct outfit.

Yes, Grandmere, they are called Foot Petals.

Breathe's shoe has a covered toe - most likely one of those dressy mule type slip-ons (not a sandal) with a high heel - so she could also try the toeless hosiery also since that might help keep her foot from sliding too much. But, I would be concerned that the toeless part would move up the foot and show from beneath the toe part of the shoe.

It's a good idea to give her hosiery options a test run before the event.

You all are so funny!!! Thank you for your responses. It has been helpful as well as entertaining! I meant to post on the US forum, but I am so used to the European one (it is so much more interesting) that I automatically came here. Yes, my toes are covered, and yes my shoe is called a mule (a dressy one). If my shoes were not so incredibly gorgeous, I would just eliminate this problem and buy a pair with a back or strap, but I can't bear to give these up. So I will buy a sheer nude with the thong thing and also a regular pair and try to find the sticky sole. If neither of those work, I will apply the tinted moisturizer and hold my head high. Have a good weekend! Breathe
