NYE in Rome - seeking recommendations based upon experiences
Hi. I’ll be in Rome (staying in the Ostiense area) for New Year’s Eve and am looking for ideas for taking in the festivities. I don’t feel inclined to go out for an extravagant meal, although rooftop cocktails appeal. I’m inclined to walk a lot and remain a bit outside of the chaos, rather than immerse myself into large crowds. What do locals do? Fireworks and music at Circus Maximus? Other events commemorating the new year?

I don't have Rome specific advice but my husband and I feel the same way about NYE (it doesn't help that we are in the restaurant business). One thing we do in pick one of our favorite restaurants and book a late, boozy lunch and are at home by 5PM.
The staff is more attentive, you aren't jockying for room somewhere that is really overcrowded, and the kitchen and staff don't hate you.

Jojo - I like your style! I’m also a hospitality veteran and can appreciate everything you said. I think I’m a little lost as to what to do on NYE anywhere beyond working FOH. I hope you have a great holiday and all the best in 2026!
