Ess,
My God, thank you for checking in here. I'm so sorry this happened at all, but I'm especially sorry this occured on your birthday. (Even though you weren't planning on celebrating much), I'm sure you're just happy to know you & your boyfriend are alive & able to be with each other. My buddy Em was at work in Manhattan & lives in Brooklyn Heights, so she'll probably be on the bridge, too.

Thanks for checking in here with us. We really care about all of you. If I can do anything to help, please e-mail me.
Hoping All Are Well,
BC

Bookchick,

Glad your boss' daughter has been located and is okay.

Last news report is that Massachusetts is sending emergency assistance to NY including two F-15 fighter jets.

If anyone throughout the country is unable to make calls in the New England area to reach loved ones, please email me and I will make the telephone calls from my home, here in Massachusetts.

If any of your loved ones are stranded in Boston, Amtrak has ceased operations on the eastern corridor (points from Boston to Washington, DC). The only public transportation would be via bus, via Peter Pan Bus Lines and Greyhound Bus Lines. Departure would be from South Station in Boston.

Hello all
I just wanted to confirm that I am well, and the people I know are
well, but what has
happened here today is beyond words. I work for a hospital. We are normally not considered a "trauma center" but we will be any minute now as
the injured and dying overflow the hospitals that are much closer to
downtown where the
World Trade Center is.
Was.
There are triage stations in tents set up outside the hospital, on
Madison Avenue; think
of a triage station set up in tents on one of your main avenues. It
looks like a scene
from MASH. Except, in this case, the tents are pretty and white because they are normally used for
outdoor fund-raising galas. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people will have
no way of getting home tonight, not just from my hospital but from all over New York City. Most people are
relatively complacent about it as they set out to walk home; and those
who have cars are
offering rides to strangers.
Some people will sleep in their offices tonight, and will give thanks
that they are alive
to do so. Our medical staff will no doubt will be working non-stop for
the next few days. The story is still unfolding; no doubt the
statistics will become horrendous.

The information we have so far, if it is accurate, is
that not only did
planes crash into the WTC buildings, but bombs went off in the lobby,
making escape slower,
and ultimately, impossible for so many. If you feel motivated to do
something, go to a
blood center in your own home town and give blood. It could be useful
to someone, sometime.
I am not normally a person who hates, but today I feel hatred. I am not a warlike person, and yet I want to retaliate, I just don't know exactly
where. I am not a
religious person, but today I wish for the people who did this, and those who support it, to burn
in hell.
So glad to know so many of you are safe. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your families, co-workers, friends, and strangers.....to all of you...

I hope the terroist burn in hell, too, Elaine.

But today I'm going to think good thoughts for the victims.

Next week I'll donote blood (the banks in Denver area have 8 hrs wait and are requesting to give next week).
It's so surreal to look out in the direction of the WTC and not see it there. WE live in Brooklyn and can smell the smoke and hear the fighter jets overhead. I work in a school and had to stay late. Many children will not be picked up by their parents tonight. I know each and every one of us will know someone who died today. The saddest story I heard was from my co-worker whose said her friend's husband called. He called from his burning office to say he was engulfed in flames, and to say goodbye.
God help us all.

Denise

From NY, I am in safe today, but a co-worker is missing a daughter. The pain we are all feeling is undescribable.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. I watched on TV the horror that unfolded today. I echo the comment that you can donate blood to help. We were release early from work today and many of us headed to a nearby blood bank in Milwaukee and I am happy to say I was turned away. Why does this make me happy? because so many others had the same thought as me. If you are turned away, be sure to go back tomorrow or during the next week because the blood is needed. Milwaukee already received a call from New York that it need its blood. Thanks for listening.

If anyone knows about any other way I can help. Please let me know. I know about the blood donations. I am right here in the city and while I know my boss expects me in tomorrow I want to go downtown and help out.

In horror I read Elaine's heart wrenching words. I'm far away from the States, but just yesterday received the warm kindness of a stranger, Elaine, send me her list of Paris favorites. How can events so terrible change this obvious caring and human person, into a hating vengeful person? The events have been terrible, and will continue to be so. My heart goes out to all of you. My heart is full of grief for those that are gone. But most of all, my heart is full of pity for what we'll become.

Dear Fodorites in NYC,

Can someone help me out? I have a friend who lives and works in the city and I cannot get in touch with her. If local calls are going through, would someone email me and place a call to my friend's place? I'm not sure if she's at home, but even leaving her a message at home to call me would be better than nothing. I ask for your help.
