Norway roads in May

We have toured all over Norway many times,
but never as early as May.
Does anyone know whether all mountain passes are open? Any road resrictions?
Is it possible to go to Lofoten Islands, Bodo and Narvik or is there still too much snow on the ground? Are the roads passable?

Thank you for all your assistance!

Ada

Ada,
Try the Norwegian Tourist Board at www.norway.org or www.visitnorway.com.
They have a free 'Official Travel guide' that lists the roads, when they are open and when closed.
I expect to be up there in May too.
Rock

Hi Ada, we toured Norway in May of '89, and experienced road closings in the western mountain area.

Marie,

Which mountains in the west are you referring to? All the mountains? Were the ferries operating?

I have really a tough time getting information.

Thanks,
Ada

Hi, Ada.
Most main roads will be open in May. Some may, however, be closed at night (app 1900-0700). Some times, even in May, socalled "column driving" might be decided if weather grows temporarily bad.
There are plenty of sources to get up-to-minute info on the internet. Most in Norwegian, I'm afraid. Below I have compiled a list of winterclosed roads and when they are expected to open (month).
According to today's (april 25) broadcast, all the main roads (E-numbered) except one very far north are open and even dry. Meaning that you probably will get wherever you want in May.
Any questions, feel free to mail me, and if you tell me your approximate route, I probably can give you an adequate answer.
All ferries are running.
I wish you a nice stay.
Bjorn, Oslo

Ev 69 Skarsvåg - Nordkapp 04
Rv 13 Gaularfjellet 05
Rv 51 Valdresflya 05
Rv 55 Sognefjellet 05 (april 27.)
Rv 63 Geirangervegen 05
Rv 63 Trollstigen 05
Rv 98 Ifjordfjellet 05
Rv 252 Tyin - Eidsbugarden 06
Rv 258 Gamle Strynefjellsveg 06
Rv 520 Breiborg - Røldal 06
Rv 886 Jarfjordfjellet 05
Fv 243 Aurland - Erdal (Lærdal) 06
Fv 337 Brokke - Suleskard 06
