Norway in a Nutshell

Norway in a Nutshell
My DH and and I and another couple will be in Oslo on May 7th & 8th. I don't anticipate ever being around there again so I don't want to blow a minute. We can spend the 2 full days sightseeing in Oslo and I think we wouldn't be bored, but since we probably won't be back in that region ever, or anytime soon, should we do the Norway in a Nutshell the 2nd day? 1. Is it really worth it as a daytrip? 2. Will be be missing many Oslo sights by going? 3. Is May a "good" time of year to do this trip or is it too cold? 4. Speaking of cold, what can we expect weather wise? 5. Is there 1 company that does this or can I pick out of a few, and should I book (if we decide to) in the U.S. or wait until we get to Oslo? Thanks in advance.

the pictures on the site should answer question 1 - this was one of the most fantastic excursions i have ever taken in decades of annual trips to Europe.
Oslo did not overwhelm me with a lot of must sights
May will be fine - it's the length of daylight that's important. But the Bergen area and sea area i believe rarely gets really cold
For a company look at the official web site - i had no trouble buying the components upon arrival in Oslo - train station. there are no reservations possible i believe on the boat, bus or Flam mountain train - only on the Oslo-Myrdhal/Voss trains and these are easily made.
But as fantastic as it is - you have little time - i'd personally skip Oslo in favor of doing the Nutshell - but it's a long day trip from Oslo.

We did the Nutshell tour last year, but from Bergen, so I can't comment on whether or not you'd miss any sights in Oslo.
We were there in May and it was sunny with no rain, BUT we were very lucky. I think it normally can be rainy. On the boat, even though it was sunny, it was quite chilly.
When you buy the tickets, it's a packet of bus, train, and boat tickets. You're using public transportation, so it's not a "tour" per se, with a tour guide or private group transportation methods. You should be able to easily buy the tickets at the tourist office or train station in Oslo.
