North Petherton

I'll be doing some family history research at North Petherton in February. Has anyone had any experience with the Best Western Walnut Tree? I won't have a car, and I'm not sure how big North Petherton is. Any chance of any kind of travel coaches for day trips?

I'm not stalking you, honest! I see there's a bus service twice an hour from Bridgwater to North Petherton up to about 9-10pm. Journey takes about 15 minutes. There also may be places to stay in North Petherton itself.

LOL. Stalk away, Patrick!! I could use all the help I can get. I realize family history mission of mine is a little off the beaten path for many who visit England; I'm glad to find expert help with my weird little journey. Thanks!

Any chance you could rent a car for a couple of days? Patrick has given you good info re the bus connections -- but the Somerset/N. Devon/ area has such lovely scenery but it is much easier by car.

But if the family research is all you are really interested in, then a bus from Bridgewater is easy.

I can't help with the hotel, but we had a lovely dinner in North Petherton some years back with a friend who lived near Langport. We thought the town--quite small then--very pretty.

I wish I could get up the nerve to rent a car. It would probably make my life a lot easier, especially since I'm traveling alone and on crutches, and have to figure out how to handle getting luggage (and myself) on and off trains and buses.

But I am pretty convinced that if I rent a care, I would totally screw up the whole left/right thing and get into some nasty wreck that would cause an international incident. I think living in Atlanta has made me a very nervous driver .

I would suggest contacting the hotel for advice about the easiest way to get there, and get around once there.
