No, we didn't run over her chicken...
Just wanted to clear my family's name as a bunch of hard-hearted chicken murderers ;>
On another thread (now closed) I mentioned an incident in southern Mexico about 25 years ago in which an elderly woman threw rocks at our camper. I'm not sure why. She looked like a beggar, and I believe she might have been mentally unwell. (I make that judgement based on my observations during many trips to rural Mexico - she looked displaced much like our homeless people look displaced).
Then again, there were those feathers on the axle...
BTW, I'm glad that thread about anti-Americanism was closed. It generated some replies that I wasn't really after.
But I find it interesting that no one posted accounts of being in actual physical danger attributable to the passport they hold, American or otherwise.

Muggers are apolitical.

Worktowander,
I remember about 15 years ago being in a village on the East Coast of Costa Rica and walking down the "road" and a little old lady, in a white dress, in a whitewashed house, with white chickens in her yard, yelling "Mujeres no llevan pantalones! Mujeres no llevan pantalones!"
Obviously my appearance offended her delicate sensibilities. But luckily, it had nothing to do with my nationality.

Thanks Ira and Jules,
Did you know that Cuba is becoming a very popular destination for European tourists? Many of my friends have been there. You can go anywhere on the island. Cuba is building huge 5* resorts. The tourists see how the Cubans live and the Cubans see how the tourists live. Things are stirring up slowly down on the island.
Anyway, I just thought that this might go under the original topic about Americans.

Been to Cuba in 91. At the time there weren't as many tourists as there are now. The "intellectual elite" was at the hotels to take care and entertain the tourists. It was very nice and interresting but also a little creepy. (Don't they have better things to do) But I would go there again without hesitation. Poverty didn't seem to be nearly a widespread as further south.

And all my fellow Canadians are complaining because the Europeans are swiping all the lounge chairs!
But seriously, Cuba has been a very popular destination for Canadians for many years. I believe it has something to do with our winters.
