Nice Historical Typical Bavarian Restaurant in Muncih

I stopped in during busy lunchtime today to have a bite to eat and ended up getting dessert (Kaiserschwarm)..it came with fresh applesauce.

It is a well decorated, very popular place with long communal tables. Just sit whereever you fit... and quickly before others behind you make their decision faster than you.

1.30 is VERY busy, best to go much earlier or later.

Reasonable prices and full of locals. The waitresses wear traditonal dress, long skirts and special blouses. Not sure if they have a menu in English as I didn't ask for one.

This is steps away from the interesting Viktuelmarkt.

"Beim Sedlmayer"

Address:
Westenriederstrasse 14
Munich 80331
Germany

It has has history of crime and murder. We all loved Walter S., but he went to bed with the wrong people. This "stupid" restaurant killed him.
Nobody cared that he was gay. He was a true giant in his profession and as a person.

He was very passionate about opening is own restaurant, but his companion tricked him. He took the money for his own restaurant instead investing it at Sedlmayers. A few weeks later Sedlmayer was found dead on his bed, killed with a hammer. The motives are still not clear! His (male) secretary faked his last will to get part of his money. They arraged it to look like he was killed by a hustler. The details never got public.

There was no proof his companion was involved in the murder, but lots of speculation he wouldn't mind to see him dead.

Maybe you should add that he had been an extremely famous German actor, and was seen as the quintessential Bavarian in many movies, TV series, and commercials. He chose to live in the closet, though. And this came out during the murder investigations, including his preferences for SM sex. So it served for quite many juicy reports in the yellow press.

On a more positive note: The meal you had was "Kaiserschmarren", a very popular speciality in Bavaria and in Austria.. It is considered a main meal.

Yes, it certainly CAN be. I had this 15 years ago also in Mnnich, but it came with some very missed Zahne! I was embarrassed to even ask for it as I already have plenty of extra weight to heft around!

Thanks for the correction of the name.

Kaiserschmarrn with teeth???

Thank you for warning, I´ll stay away from that restaurant. I prefer to bite into my food, not being bitten by it.

;-)

Thanks altamiro, I just wanted to ask for the story about the lost tooth and Kaiserschmarrn. But then realized it's supposeed to be Sahne (cream), and not Zahne (tooth).
In a story about restaurants both words can be part of interesting stories.

Just goes to prove that it is sometimes better NOT to know what is happening in a restaurant kitchen, in the owner's bedroom, etc.

I should know better! I have actually studied the language ( 25 years ago!).. I also have alot of dental problems so maybe that is why Zahne is so fresh in my mind!

I think I'll stick to English or Spanish! Keep myself out of trouble!
