Nice, Eze or Monaco???

We have one day near Villefranche, from 10am to 11pm on a Sunday. It looks like there is convenient rail transportation running along the coast so we are trying to decide where to go. Can you get to Eze on the train? The train schedule has a station called Eze but I can't tell if that's the medieval village we want to visit. Can I easily combine Nice and Eze in one day? Will there be anything open on Sunday or should we just plan on wandering the towns? Everyone I've asked so far has advised against going to Monaco-should I skip? Thanks for your help!

The actual train stop is Eze-sur-le-Mer (Eze by the sea). You would need to take a taxi or bus to get to Eze Village. Yes, you can combine Nice and Eze in one day. I personally have no problem with Monaco, although we are ususally there off season, so the crowds are not there. Hope this helps.

kristi,

There is another village called St. Paul de Vence that is on the other side of Nice. I did enjoy Eze, but I think I liked St. Paul de Vence more. You could probably get both of them into one day. Old town Nice is fun. Otherwise, I thought Nice was just a large city. There are somethings there I'm sure you have read about.

Eze sur Mer is quite far from the medieval village, so you would have to take a taxi. I actually like Nice a lot, having studied there and there are things to see. You certainly don't need a full day to see Eze. St Paul de Vence is too far to see in the limited time you have. I too do not like Monaco, which doesn't seem like a real city to me.

Lock your car when driving in Nice. A friend just returned from there. They were stopped at a light and a guy walked up, opened the passenger door and took his wife's purse and ran. Had passports and money plus credit cards. Cops said it is so common that it is a daily thing. Cops also said she was lucky the purse was not around her arm as they usually carry a knife to cut the strap. So.....lock your car doors.

THIS COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE...

We have been to Nice too many times to count. As anywhere in the world, this could happen.

OOPS, I forgot to make my point. We have never had any kind of negative encounter such as was described earlier.

No matter where you are you need to be aware of your surroundings.
