Nice- a meeting place??

A cry to those who know Nice-my daughter (18 and fairly well travelled in Italy) has had a friend with whom she is co-ordinating a trip to Europe do a change of plan... they were going to travel over to Rome together and explore Italy and France...the pal now wants to meet in Nice where neither have ever been, take a 1 or 2 day bike trip and then head to Italy. What might be a suitable (and safe!) meeting place where two young women, reasonably savvy and mature but still inexperienced could meet with a back up plan for lateness, emergencies etc.?.. Anybody know about biking in this area?I was flattered to be asked for advice but don't know this part of France at all.

Try to find the name of a well known hotel along the beach front strip or if there is an American Express travel agency meet there. Sorry don't know about biking

Lesley, I'd bet that whoever gets there first could leave a note for the other one at the Tourist Office "downtown." It's located on the main road into town, facing the bay, quite close to the city center.

Lesley, assuming a well-known landmark where one can park oneself for some hours would be a good spot to meet, I suggest the Hotel Negresco, which is on the sea (Promenade des Anglais), close to the airport, highly respectable (being the premier hotel in the city), and just a very nice place to hang out while waiting.
A larger question is where they will call their home while doing the bike trip. It would seem that if they can map out a bike trip, then choice of a meeting place would be a no-brainer.
For bike trips just visit your Barnes & Noble or other book store with a good section on guides. Heck, I just read a book on bike trips in France in my doctor's office!

It seems like the answer might vary some, depending on whether one or both is arriving in Nice by train, plane or car. And what will be the source of the bikes they will be using?
