Next Trip Tied to World Cup Winner?

I am now in the process of deciding where to go for my next trip....which will be this fall (October or November). I had been thinking of a few places....Turkey, Italy, Mexico among others. I realized that of the places I was pondering, most were still in the World Cup chase.

So, earlier this morning I had this (crazy)idea - go the whatever country wins the competition. In general, I am willing to go most anywhere. Am I totally looney, or does this sound like fun???

Sounds great. Do you have friends in Senegal?

To Goooooal - I have no friends in Senegal, nor in any of the other countries still in it..other than in the US, where I live.

Senegal would be costly to get to, and while interesting no doubt, would probably not be my number one choice to win.

Well, I guess you can forget Mexico. How about a trip to the U.S.A.?

Cara - Thanks for the quick Portuguese lesson. I was in Portugal earlier this year, and it is a difficult language to pick up - was for me anyway. If Brazil wins - certainly a possibility - I am most interested in visiting Salvador de Bahia and surrounding area. The downside - it costs a lot of money to get to from NE US where I live, and travel time is lengthy. Rio would be less expensive, but I am not as interested in. Do you have any tips on a visit to Salvador?

Jp/Unc. Sam - From sports angle, I am rooting for US to win. From trip angle, that would not be my first choice, though I love to travel both in the US and to foreign destinations. I could easily come up with a good domestic trip if it that is the result.

Howard,
Looney idea? No. Being in the country that wins - on June 30th - would be looney.

Anyway...here's a helpful link to start planning that trip:
http://www.varig.com.br/english/index.htm

But they have to get past those crazy Brits first. If that doesn't happen, then at least you'll know the language.
MJ - Thanks for the Varig link..Brazil has a great chance. At least weather will be better there than in most of the other countries in November!

England would be fine..plenty to see and do, but weather would not be the best for a November trip. Of the countries remaining in contention, I have been to 4 - Italy, USA, England, Spain.

Tony - Ciao! Have been to Italy 4 times, but have never visited Sicily...now number one on my list of places to see in Italy. Plus, it is relatively warm in the autumn. Would not complain if Italy won.

Cross Japan off the list. I think Korea may say bye-bye next.
