New Year's eve in Paris

We are going to be in Paris for New Year's this year and are looking for ideas of things to do on New Year's eve that would be enjoyed by all. We are taking our daughters (ages 30 & 24) and son-in-law (age 31). We are obviously in our 50's. Any suggestions or experiences you have had in Paris at this time is appreciated.

FYI:<BR><BR>Wherever you end up going, if you are too far from the hotel to walk, the metro closes at 1 a.m. (yes, on New Year's Eve!) and taxis will be in RARE supply... try to have your hotel reserve one in advance and hope that they arrive for you amid the congestion...I've ended up walking MILES to get home because of it.<BR><BR>We usually go to a restaurant for oysters and champagne, then off to another for a special meal, and then to a local jazz club to sing into the New Year.

Hi Nancy, I just topped my trip report for you from my NYE trip last year. It's titled "Just back from Paris! Bonne Annee!!! Here's a jetlagged trip report!"<BR>

Last NYE in Paris, the Metro was opened until after 2 a.m. and it was a free ride. Not crowded. You probably cannot get a taxi so work out your metro path beforehand, and use it. Txi drivers celebrate too. So, fewer taxis on the street December 31. Don't waste your time trying to get a taxi. Besides, it will be faster underground.

One other thought: when you reserve your restaurant for NYE, do clarify whether they require a deposit to hold your table. Ours informed us a scant eight hours beforehand, making me scurry to an ATM and then Metro over. Interestingly, when we arrived that evening they apologized, said it hadn't been necessary and handed me back the francs. I gather some will provision for the exact number coming.

Nancy, we are in exactly the same situation as you are. My husband and I are taking our daughter, 25, her husband, 28, and our son, 26 to Paris on Christmas night for a week. We have rented an apartment and are looking for fun things for the "younger" people to do. New Years Eve and New Years Day will probably be most interesting. We are staying in Montmartre and definitely don't want to be stuck 3 miles from home with no way back but walking. I would love to hear suggestions from anyone on fun things to do this time of year with a group such as ours. We are very flexible, have one musician, an artist and a teacher and 2 parents who have visited Paris before and want to give our kids a great Christmas memory. Thanks.
