New Years Eve in Annecy

Well, I did it. I managed to get 3 Business Class frequent flyer tickets in and out of Geneva for my husband, son and me over Christmas/New Year. Our plan is to spend 2 nights in Geneva, then 4 in Chamonix where son will ski, and then finish up with 4 nights in Annecy. Is there anything special we might expect to find/do in Annecy or nearby areas for New Years Eve and the weekend following?

Anyone out there with firsthand knowledge of Annecy? Besides info about events/activities for NYEve and day, I'd appreciate suggestions for a place to dine on NYEve. We'd prefer something fun to something fancy, e.g. in Garmisch we chose Frauendorfer over Reindl Grill and in Barcelona we opted for Set Portes rather than a starred Michelin place for NYEve. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks wren. How are you coming on your plans for Annecy? Anything you want me to check while I'm there?
Also see that you're going to Barcelona. Great city. You will love it.

I love Annecy in the summer and autumn but I can't imagine spending 4 days there in January. I think I would spend the time in Chamonix and or Geneva or even take the TGV train to Paris.

Your mileage may vary; so have a great trip.

LarryJ, what would you do in Chamonix besides ski?

I agree with Larry. Annecy is a quaint little town with a beautiful lake, but I'm not sure that there would be enough to do (at least for me) over 4 days in the winter.

Since you went to Chamonix for sking; I think I would rather stay there and do more of it or go back to Geneva or with 4 days you could go to Paris or anyplace but Annecy. In Annecy I haven't a clue what to do in January. You can't even ski in Annecy. Great town in summer though. The big thing in Annecy is the lake and water sports and a great cycling town.

As I said before your mileage may vary. Have fun whatever you decide.

we stayed on the lake at the Pere Bise.
There was a drag queen restaurant in the old town where we dined one night but this was several years ago.

We've been to Annecy a couple of times during nice weather and loved it. That's why we thought we'd enjoy it in winter. We've stayed at Le Cottage and L'Abbaye and eaten at Pere Bise in Talloires. It was all swell. The whole area is beautiful. I hadn't realized it would be so quiet in winter but we'll try to find that drag queen restaurant that you found, cigalechanta. Could be fun. Thanks for the tip.

Me and my friends will be doing a similar trip this winter, starting from Aosta 28-30thDecember. We are considering a few places to spend out NYE celebrations. Would you recommend Lyon city?
We will be travelling by car, and we'll be heading to Euro Disney on 1st January.
Thanks for your help!

I second the endorsement wholeheartedly. We spent time in Lyon at their Fete des Lumieres in early December. The weather was sharp but nice and you cannot beat the food. Also spent one NYEve there. We aren't partiers so I can speak to that scene but everything was fun and festive.

There is no snow expected until January except at the very highest altitudes. All of the ski resorts are devastated by losing the entire Christmas season.

My trip to Annecy in late November 2014 might contain a few useful visuals of the area: http://anyportinastorm.proboards.com...nnecy-november
