New year in Paris?
My partner and I will be spending New Year in Paris but so far have no clue as where to go that night? Will there be fireworks? Is it possible to be on top of the eiffel tower at midnight or will it be closed? I forgot to mention my partner is 4 months pregnant so nothing too tiring for her.

Jimmy:
We are going to spend Christmas in the south France and New Year's in Paris. Based in info. I gathered in this BB - definitely there will be fireworks around and Eiffel Tower will be opened but not sure if it's possible to go on top considering there will be crowds. the Champs d' Elysee would be your best bet also - just be careful with your pregnant partner as it can go wild and crazy!!

Fireworks at the Eifel Tower last New Years Eve were pretty pathetic (toned down after 9/11.

Walking Des Champs Elysees on New Years's Eve was neat until we were mugged by wandering bands of thugs.

Careful, subway shuts down at 12:30a.m. One cab tried to charge a buddy of mine 700 Euro's (not FF) for a ride from the the Moulon Rouge on NYE(they too charge twice the normal charge). If you want to go out on NYE with the "amatures" stay close to your hotel. Pary the rest of the week!

Forget the top of the Eiffel Tower... you could be in any major city from that height. You will spend half of NYE on a line meeting other American tourists. Best be done at anouther time.

The hightlight of our trip (Go-today was an excellent value) was going to the Ballet near the Bastile ( I researched and purchased tickets it on the web) and going out afterwards to the Le Marias.
I agree with Frank. Last year´s NYE celebrations in Paris were pretty tame. Two suggestions: attend an opera performance--we saw an excellent production of Die Fledermaus at the Bastille. We will be in Paris again for NYE this year and will probably do a Seine dinner cruise.
BTilke (Brussels)
