New pictures!

Message: And we have more pictures! John Sevy send me his best from many years of travel -- I had a hard time choosing the 10-12 I've nominally decided that one person can contribute to the page [in order to have room for ALL of you]. They include the first for the page of the former soviet countries as well as a WONDERFUL one of Edinburgh Castle in a light snow! And a group of men playing Pentaque in France. [Maybe someone can explain this game to me?]

Later today I will put up instructions for sending pictures to me. In brief -- PLEASE email me to say you are sending and wait for my confirmation -- remember that hotamil can't take an email over 1 meg and that the most space I usally have available is 1.5 megs. If your email bounces it is probably either that your email is too big and/or my mailbox limit has been exceeded.

I can't begin to tell you how much fun it is to open each email and see your visions of what the world looks like! I'm getting to visit [and revisit] many places through your eyes.

Sally,

I appreciated the recent (private e-mail) dialogue with you, and I have no quarrel with your decision NOT to post the photos of the Fodors pins I mentioned to you (it is not hard for people to find those URL's on my geocities page anyhow).

But isn't this a valid method of getting photos to you, instead of e-mailing them to you? - - to put them on a web page, or Yahoo briefcase or something like that -- and just have you "pull them down" by right clicking on them?

Just curious,

Rex
It's marginally easier to have them in my email and it's the custom that has arisen and I'm a creature of habit[and it doesn't hurt people IMHO to learn how to do attachments] But you are right, of course -- those are both viable options for people if they prefer that method. In fact that's how I got Gloria & Mike's wonderful pictures of Prague. It was, however, more work for me.

Since Rex has referred to a private email exchange I am posting my reasoning here for the decisions I made. It is as I wrote it.
----------
<<I'll be happy to post some pictures and/or a link to your trip journal and pictures after the trip, but as it stands your current website isn't in the same category as the others that are listed.

As for the images -- I've made no reference to the various pins because that wasn't the function of the site as it has developed. The function is to post "fodorite" travel pictures, travel websites and pictures of fodorite meetings. While I am open to other ideas, in the end I am responsible for the site.

I have thought carefully and I believe these are the answers that I would give anyone who made the same requests.>>

If I put them in a "zip" file, can you unzip it? Not that I'd send that big a zip file in the first place, but when it works it works great and saves time/space.

zip file is fine [s.fowler makes a note to add that method to the FAQ she just posted] Just make sure that the images, when zipped are under 1 meg and that you follow the other "please dos" on the FAQ I just posted on the front page and the pictures page. Let me know if the popup window get's "squirrely" -- geocities looked as if it might be choking on it.

BTW another "policy" note. I use real first names, sometimes last name initials when there are multiple posters with the same first names, but I *never* post last names our of a concern for privacy. I *might* make an exception for Inky [That was a joke folks!]

And just to clarify - - this is not a "fight" over posting the pictures of the pins. I asked Sally; she replied with her reasoning as cited above. I agree with her that pics of the "pins" are not REALLY "travel" pictures.
