New photos of the Canal Saint Martin

I don't know if anybody is interested, but I added a new set of photos to my report about the Canal Saint Martin, just to show how people "use" the canal on a warm spring evening: http://tinyurl.com/3aklo8w

Great photos, kerouac! I've been up the canal and enjoyed the cruise, but these photos at street level are quite another perspective. I'm tempted to take the walk alongside the canal to see it from the same perspective.

Thank you, Kerouac. I strolled along the canal back in 2005--don't recall it looking this lovely. Not sure if it was the dreary weather, or if it has been "prettified" with good effect! Your pohtos make me want to return and check it out.

Thanks, kerouac - I too love that canal!

My first experience was traveling down through the locks from Parc de la Vilette. The guide on our cruise had a most delightful commentary and intriguing 'ghost' story for the section that runs under the Bastille area.

I too have walked beside the canal and enjoyed all the little garden and park areas; even stopped for lunch in a small park that included a little community garden.

Thanks for the memories! Di

These are absolutely wonderful pictures, Kerouac. And your commentary is the icing on the cake. Is it the main venue for Paris Plages? Or the only one?

Have you ever considered publishing a book of your photos and commentary? Please keep them coming!

Terrific. Almost better than being there in person. And the commentary is so much more complete and understandable. Thanks so much.

Ellen, most of Paris Plages is along right bank of the Seine. The Bassin de la Villette location is just an annex, but it's nicer than the main one, in my opinion -- much more user friendly and not as crowded.

We walked the Canal on a gorgeous day in early April. Tout le monde were lunching canalside, legs dangling over the edge or in the Parc Villemin.

Nice memories.

This canal trip looks very interesting. How can I find out about it, where it starts, tickets etc?

On my list for trip in planning. So is it 'preferable' to go by water or land? One of those canal-side cafes looked interesting.

Lovely! We had hoped to take the canal cruise on our last trip to Paris but ran out of time. It will be a must for our next visit!

This is the Canal St. Martin I was searching for and never found! Of course, I was in Paris in February, so it's understandable. Still, I was hoping for some vestige of the outdoor living I see in K's pictures. I guess I need to plan a warmer weather trip to Paris...

True, in February you won't see as many people lounging along the canal at the end of the day (but you might find the cafés packed to capacity).

Wow, kerouac, I think you really captured the essence of cafe "society" in those pictures.

I can attest to the fact the canal area does not look like that in November, either!

Thank you.
