The French tax was mentioned in today's (Friday's) Wall Street Journal, page A3 or A5, I think, as a competing proposal against two UK/US proposals about AIDS funding. The other tax is an environmental one that could raise ticket prices as much as 40 pounds round-trip on intra-Europe flights. I think the EU Parliament has okayed this, but I'm not sure what it means about whether it will actually happen.

UreOSceptic was perfectly accurate in his description of the status of the European Parliament initiative.

Since July 1, France has charged €1 per flight on economy-class flights within - well I've found it impossible to tell if it's within the EU, within Europe or what the definition of Europe is. That rises to €10 on business or first class flights within this sloppily defined area. Economy class flights to destinations outside this area are taxed €10: first and business €40.

There is no tax on international trains (where, of course, the French State suffers limited competition). And no hint of any softening of the French government's remorseless support for the most efficient instrument ever for spreading global poverty and disease: the Common Agricultural Policy.

wally,

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060629...ncedevelopment

i think you owe the OP an apology and next time you would do better to follow your own advice:

>>>>>>
"doesn't anybody read and comprehend before mouthing off?"
>>>>>>

it's really ironic that you posted this advice when you are the only one on this thread "mouthing off" without any idea what you were talking about.

if i were you, i'd apologise and reregister under another name to save yourself further embarrassment.

UreOSceptic and flanneruk are two different posters? They sound remarkably similar.
