Like I said, buy the Bologna-Milan and Milan-Zurich separately. They probably can't sell you a national and an international train in the same transaction.

As I said, Chiasso is on the border. When you have Milan-Z. up on trenitalia, click on details and you see all the stations. Look it up on a map, then you'll know where you're going.

Let me suggest the following. Instead of taking the 9:16 Eurostar out of Bologna, which gives you an 18-minute connection with the Cisalpino in Milan, take the 8:52 Eurostar. This gets you to Milan 30 minutes earlier and gives you a 48-minute connection with the same Cisalpino to Zurich.
