netherlands housewarming gift
I will visit my brother and his family in the Netherlands Thursday.
I am bringing pnut butter chocolate, pencils etc that they have asked for.
I would like to bring a present for their home.
Ant thoughts?
My brother is on year 2 of a 3 year assignment

I will be trading houses with a nice engineer from outside Amsterdam and we have corresponded often about this exchange. My several neighbors, who will be entertaining him at dinner while he is in Texas, when polled would love cheese, chocolate, or bulbs in a small package. He's tucking small amounts of these into his luggage - acceptable to customs, of course. He said his neighbors would love a jazz or country/western CD. And it shall be done!
Flowers are also always acceptable, even in The Netherlands!

We've been living in Belgium for several years; one present we would have liked to receive is a Christmas tree stand (the kind that holds water). You simply cannot find them over here. Everyone in Benelux tells us that the trees are put up much closer to Christmas and sprayed to keep them fresh, etc. etc. Rubbish!! The lobby of our apartment building always looked like the floor of an old pine forest after Christmas, covered with dead needles from everyone taking their completely dried out Christmas trees for collection. The concierge was constantly sweeping up needles.
We sold our Christmas tree stands at yard sales before we moved to Europe from the U.S. How I wish we had kept at least one! I'm going to pick one up at Target when I'm back in the U.S. this December for a week.
