Unless you have special needs, the train service into Amsterdam from the airport is so good and cheap, and runs so frequently, I strongly urge you to take it. The ride to Amsterdam proper is about 45 minutes.
As you leave the station in Amsterdam you will find plenty of taxis if you still need one to get to your hotel.

The train ride to Centraal takes 15-20 minutes and costs under 4€; a taxi takes maybe 30 minutes and costs 30-40€. A Connexxion shuttle bus takes the longest, and waits at the terminal to 'fill up', and costs maybe 12€ or so. (haven't looked it up lately).
There is a link on the website for Schiphol for private transfer, and it costs a little more than a taxi.

Hi, The trains leave for Amsterdam from Schipol about every 20 min. They sell tickets right at the top of the escalator. It costs 8 euro one way 15 euro return. The bus station in Amsterdam is right across the street from the train station. Most hotels are right on a bus route but if not there are many taxis out front and If you take a taxi from here it will be much cheaper than all the way from Schipold.

From the airport there is a scheduled shuttle-service to various hotels in Amsterdam. check: www.schiphol.nl.
Also for 4 persons a taxi will be the cheapest way, but might give problems if you travel with much luggage.
