Help! I need to find somewhere to stay for one day between stops (Lyon to Avignon). I was considering Moustiers-Ste-Maire, but thought it might be too long of a drive for an overnight...any ideas? <BR> <BR>

Barbara, I'm finding it difficult to understand your post. You are looking for some place to spend a night between Lyon and Avignon? Why? Lyon to Avignon is about a 3-4 hour drive at most on the autoroute. And Moustiers-Ste-Marie is well to the east of Avignon, not between the two. Please clarify.

Sorry for the confusion Betty. We are staying in Lyon for 3 nights and have made a reservation in Avignon for 4 nights. We have a day in-between that we would like to use to see something different. Hope this helps.

OK, I get it now. Problem is, you're kind of stuck between the Alps on the one side and the Massif Central on the other and mountainous roads can eat up a lot of time. The only thing I can think of is perhaps a side-trip to Grenoble. There's what looks like a good autoroute from Lyon to Grenoble and then from Grenoble back to Valence and the A7 south to Avignon. I've only been in Grenoble once, many years ago, and I just remember it being a beautiful town nestled up against the Alps. Perhaps someone else can tell you more about it or some other place along the route south that you would enjoy.

We stayed in a place called Hostellerie Crillon le Brave, near Vaison la Romaine, that was absolutely wonderful, and has a brilliant restaurant to boot.
