Need solid advice on getting a cell phone to use for short time in Germany

We will be in Germany and Austria this summer. I do not want to buy a cell phone, but do need one for the trip...only 10 days. Any suggestions?

Steal one, try shoplifting. Sorry, the question doesn't leave many alternatives, but maybe someone else has one.

Try www.mobalrental.com. It is a
GSM phone that you buy for$49.00
No roaming charges.
YOu own the phone, so you will have
it for future travel.
I don't own one, but I think I am
going to go with this one. You
can search on Google for cellphones
probably all kind of websites.

If you don't want to buy a cell phone, then you have 2 choices: take your own GSM world phone and use it, paying the roaming charges, or rent one. Neither is really a cheap option if you plan to call home a lot, but either would work. If you just need a phone for emergencies, take your own. But if you don't have a GSM phone, then you can only rent.

If you can get your own cell phone company to unlock your phone, you can just buy a SIM card in Germany and use that.

You can't do without a cell phone for 10 days? I use my GSM phone for emergencies only. It costs over $5 per minute with roaming, international fees, etc..... The pay phones (you buy a prepaid card) and even the hotel phones are cheaper to use. E-mail is the way to go to keep in touch with home if you have to.

Hi T,

For what, and how often, will you be using the phone?
