August is peak festival time in Edinburgh. We booked our accomodation about 1 month ago and it involved me sitting by the phone for hours, listening to how things were fully booked. It would've made it easier if there weren't six of us.

But I think you probably might want to hurry with Edinburgh. BTW - we're going for the Fringe festival. Can't wait !

In Bath, we enjoyed the Sydney Gardens Hotel, which is actually a B&B, right on the Sydney Gardens park (with a private keyed gate on the park) in a lovely quiet setting and a ten-minute walk into Bath, which is a very walkable city. The rooms are loaded with classic British B&B charm, and the breakfast is very generous.
